Both TIMN and Engadget recently did reviews on this phone and really liked it:

Amazing build quality and design, gorgeous screen, great UI. Yeah it may be a year too late, but damn if this phone isn't competitive. If it had a Google Voice app I would definitely think about this. I wonder why they even bothered taking the time to release this if they are done with Meego. It would seem like they would have had a very compelling product if they did.

nokia has always had amazing phone design, its a shame they could never get into the us market

id love to see them make an android based phone but that will never happen

It is an extremely nice phone. But since its Meego based it wont be sold with a carrier in the US. And unlocked I bet it goes for at least 500 dollars. I dont know any hardcore Nokia fans who will be getting it. We are all waiting for WP7.

IF SOMEBODY GETS THIS PHONE PLEASE TELL US!

OK, watched the hardware video.
Spent too much time comparing it to other phones, which is useless if you dont own any of them.
Didnt say much about anything except the OLED plus screen, which doesnt look like anything impressive on video. This is the kind of thing I gotta see in person.

Also:

Have you ever seen a shadier thing in your life?

EDIT:
In the software section he talked a little more about the hardware. Its pretty much just last years Droid X hardware. The good news is that since its running Meego instead of Android its both more capable and smoother & power efficient. The bad news is that its still hurting when running 3d games and video clips unless they are low quality SD. The camera is supposedly very good but I honestly never cared about that.
The really impressive thing is it has built in support for just about everything with an account. Youtube, twitter, skype, and a buttload more. Also one of the home screens is nothing but feeds and updates for all of those accounts. I like that a lot even though I dont normally subscribe to RSS feeds and I think its uncool to constantly check your facebook status.
App store is nice but not exactly bursting with stuff. They do include a lot of good apps right out of the box. They didnt mention it but Ovi Maps is free and can do offline navigation without any additional software. There is a driving mode that simplifies the interface and makes navigating easier. Music app is powerful and streamlined. Meego has an automatic account which lets you stream music from a variety of places.

But the reviewer mentioned over and over again: Meego is basically dead, so for many people it does not make much sense to jump into their world, even though this is probably the best Nokia phone ever made.

Nokia had quite a bit of success in the US in the late 90's/early 2000's. Problem was, they didn't want to deal with CDMA which at the time had more market share. They didn't want to pay royalties to Qualcomm. So they pulled out of the CDMA market when CDMA had like 70% of the US market. Then after a couple of years, they licensed out their name to Pantech to make US spec CDMA phones that were horrible and tarnished their brand a bit in the US. By the time they started making CDMA phones again they only made low end phones. Meanwhile on the GSM/WCDMA side they ignored their relationships with US GSM carriers who tended to only carry the lower end phones and the occasional S60 pseudo smartphone. Instead, they tried to market their high end smartphones unsubsidized thru branded boutique stores in limited markets. Hopefully they won't be that dumb this time around. Let MS subsidize the shit out of them. Give away free MS points and Zune Pass subs to buyers. Give a Xbox to anyone who buys 2 or more on a family account. And remember that CDMA still has over 1/2 the US market between Verizon, Sprint, and several regional carriers.

I hate you Nokia, I really do.

Its good to hate. Keeps you from getting soft and complacent.

Also, the more reviews I see, the more I want this.
But there really is no purpose in jumping on a platform that we know for a fact is going to be killed.

That's the thing, I want the phone also. Why buy a dead product? This will go down in history as one the greatest phones no one bought.

Pre 3 would be up there too. I played with one over the weekend. Great phone.

i would be tempted to get it, i don't have much use for most apps, although there are a few that i would want, dropbox and quickoffice pro being chief among them, i use them way too much on my phone to do without now days. if i could get those though, i don't care if the system is dead, i would just be getting a new phone in a couple of years anyways.

it looks awfully good, but alas, i'm in a phone contract for another year and i can't afford to buy it outright.

I got one a week ago.

The phone hardware is absolutely beautiful. The polycarbonate body feels amazing in the hand - it has a nice heft to it and it just feels all around solid. I couldn't help but to keep pulling it out of my pocket and holding in my hand and looking at the beautiful display. I have to say it again, the level of hardware quality is unparalleled. I work in sales for a major US carrier and I have used and played with a lot of phones over the years, and this is by far the best looking and feeling phone I've ever used.

The software is very easy to use. Using swipe to switch apps and screens takes a little getting used to, but once you do you'll find yourself trying to swipe on other phone OSes. A couple of things about the phone I'd like to point out that you guys might find helpful.

1. When texting and messaging on facebook the font is kind of smallish, and if you're used to swype then you'll find pressing each button on the virtual keyboard kind of tiresome. The virtual keyboard is very accurate, about on the same level as the iPhone.

2. Performance is somewhat lacking. There is a slight delay when opening applications, although when switching applications there is very little delay. I have not experienced any system lock ups. A few times the phone has lagged when switching apps but never more than maybe 3-4 seconds.

3. No bookmarks in the web browser. wtf nokia?

4. No native support for front facing camera.

5. Call quality is nothing to write home about; fairly clear, but I wish it had more volume.
Same with the speaker phone.

6. Battery life is average. About the same as any other smart phone. The first 2-3 days I had the phone the battery died very quickly, within 10 hours. I changed some data usage settings and I can get about 14-16 hours before I need to charge it.

7. The screen: black levels are unreal and colors pop. On par or better than Samsung Galaxy S2 (I own an S2). When the screen is black, you can't even tell its on. Also this screen is fairly visible outdoors in bright sunlight with brightness set at 50%. Impressive.

8. The door used to access the charging port is a bit flimsy and annoying to open.

Overall its a pretty awesome phone, I think it just needs to some tweaking to work out the kinks and improve system performance. I wish we carried this subsidized at my store, it would be an easy money maker.

over here in asia its roughly 600 dollars US once you do the conversion. I just dont understand that price. Nokias always have good phones but the n9 is way too expensive compared to what other phones are offering
