I am building my first computer from scratch. I want an audio/video computer - no gaming, no media center software. It's primary use is for audio editing and some video editing and mpg conversions. I want a fast number cruncher with lots of SATA choices but still no gaming - price is not a concern.

I already have a pro sound card, HDs, and the peripherals, etc. I can figure out most of the new pieces but the video card confuses me - too many choices. Same for the motherboard.

This is what I have so far:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe (??)
CORSAIR 2GB TWINX2048-4400PRO
Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS
Thermaltake Purepower W0083RU ATX12V/ EPS12V 600W Power Supply
Thermaltake CL-P0257 Blue orb II CPU Cooler

See any improvements to the above? Video card suggestions?

Thanks...

firstly the blue orb 2 is alright, but i would not recomend it for a dual core, the hetpipe heatsink that comes with the X2 should be much better. (i own a blue orb 2 and have tryed it on my dual core and the sonic tower even pasive with case fans does better than the orb, its a very nice heatsink for single cores but heatpipe heatsinks are much better fo duallies)

If u dont care about gaming, well any half descent card will do, a 6200 pcie ( non turbocache) will do it fine.

You can go with pretty much any card and be fine if you're not gaming... One question though: if you aren't gaming and don't care about the graphics cards, why a dual PCIe x16 SLI motherboard?

you overpaid for your motherboard by about 100 dollars since that motherboard is designed for 2 graphics cards in sli mode.

Mainsteam graphics card are differentiated solely on basis of gaming performance these days - if you are not gaming, go for the least expensive PCIe card you can find. It will look exactly the same at the more expensive cards in 2D applications.

Go for the cheapest PCIe card you can find that isn't a TurboCache or Hyper Memory model. You can go for a cheaper motherboard also. If you need more SATA ports get a PCIe SATA card.
