I have no garage, my car is parked right in front of my house, it's pretty obvious that I'm home....

A person just looking to take the TV isn't going to bother if somebody is actually around. But in this state, I have to be actively threatened with a weapon or else I end up going to jail for murder. Luckily enough I'm good enough of a shot that I'd just take out the legs. Don't want to risk my poor little bum bum getting wrecked while in the clinker if I took out some low life in my house.

The non-violent thieves are smarter than the ones stealing shit for drug money. Typically I would think a career thief would avoid any type of potential confrontation. The violent thief may just need drug money and might not give two shits about waking up the homeowner. Hyped up on whatever their only thought may be to not go to jail because of witnesses.

I don't understand the question. The prisons are overcrowded, the courts are overcrowded, the justice system is a joke and most criminals are recidivists. What's the point of non-lethal home defense? Don't take half measures.
