I love having a 30" monitor but I am too blind to use the native 2560x1600 resolution.

I have a Dell 3007 which I've read doesn't have a hardware scaler. It's disturbingly blurry at 1920x1200.

Will this problem be much less severe with newer monitors that do have a hardware scaler?

Sorry i'm missing something, if you are thinking about buying a newer monitor then why don't you just buy a 1920 x 1080 resolution one?

I concur with Puppies, you should buy a 1920x1200 monitor that has a nice high DPI instead. How about you also get some glasses, that will also solve the problem AND help you see in the real world as a bonus.

I agree the best solution would have been a 27" 1080 screen, but have you tried using the scaler within the OS? Running a fixed resolution display out of spec will always look ugly.

if Windows 7, go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Display and choose 125% or 150% up from 100%

If you do this be aware it can have compatibility issuse with some software, but it is a general fix. Also if you are struggling with your browser ctrl+forward scroll on your mouse should help

Or set video card scaling (depending on OP's hardware).

Go into your video driver settings (CCC or nVidia control panel) and find the option for GPU Scaling, and enable it. This will make the GPU scale your resolution to the monitor's native resolution as a hardware scaler would.

It's actually faster than a monitor's scaler is so it's always better to use the GPU scaler than the monitor scaler to get rid of input lag caused by the conversion when you make the monitor do it.
