All sorts of food deals going on right now. Restaurants are doing ANYTHING to stay alive.

Jersey Mikes had a lunch special today - 50% off any order. We bought for the entire office (the remaining brave souls who are still coming into work). It was so popular the website crashed!

Then there is a local upscale restaurant that normally serves steak, buffalo, quail, truffles, etc. Right now they are having a special serving a family of four to go for $40. Thats the typical per plate price. I can see the line of cars out of my window. They've been lining up for over an hour and clogging a nearby road.
The Jersey Mike's sale is going on through Sunday, I believe, but I was under the impression it was only for orders through the app.

I have seen 3 separate reports of strangers spitting in the face of pedestrians in my vicinity over the last week or so. Really appalling stuff.

Anyone going this route with me is unlikely to need to worry about Covid-19 killing them.

EDIT: Wow I can't even manage to post a quote lol ... cabin-fever ??

My bad luck continues...main computer motherboard decides to die after 8 years. Im still using my trusty Sandybridge CPU 2700K from 2011 on the (former) Asrock Z77. For everything I do this CPU is adequate.

Running the "emergency" computer during these "emergency" times. Hopefully the current shuttered economy doesnt affect my ability to get parts. I've been ordering lots of things lately and havent had any problems yet.

At least that's your "emergency" PC. I have the same cpu and mobo and it's my primary desktop! I'm using a much newer laptop on the couch, and we have Surface Books as our work pcs.

Don't feel sorry for yourself ... main rig currently is an FX-8350/GTX-980 *(which still runs everything I've thrown at it with no trouble somewhat surprisingly)

Well, for the moment my friend's Waffle House is still open at GA I-85 exit 51.

Waffle House
4410 GA-154, Newnan, GA 30265
(678) 423-1015

Heard it said a million times before: "It ain't the end of the world 'til you see Waffle House closed."
That's simply not responsible.
Didn't say it was business as usual. They're doing curbside like every other restaurant that's still allowed to be open. Not sure if they're also doing delivery but the dining area is definitely closed.

Truckers rely on Waffle House, which is why they are 24/7/365. Imagine how bad it would be for medical suppliers and people relying on delivery if the truckers couldn't get gas and food.

Carhops are back.

No, not even close. Those numbers are total BS. They will blame the hidden cases on imported cases in the near future.

I'm sure China's numbers are much higher than reported, but I'm also sure the United States' number are much higher than reported.

Yes, the gulf between identified cases and actual number of cases in the US is huge. The difference is that the US is reporting every known case, whether by clinical diagnosis or testing. China definitely is not despite the huge spike in reporting when they added in clinical diagnoses. They are actively suppressing this by orders of magnitude.

One is due to the situation on the ground changing so there's an unavoidable lag. The other has that and has a national interest in keeping things looking great. For those who don't know the latter is China.

Yep. It's why they typically report like ~7-25 flu deaths every year when every country a 10th of their population reports thousands.

i think he meant that eating at waffle house in general is irresponsible, virus or not

fun fact: i've never been to a waffle house in my life
I miss Waffle House
For some reason they just don't show up in Nebraska, even though we have I-80 running through the state, and they have them in Colorado and other surrounding states.

Bloomberg is reporting that as China opens up manufacturing a second wave of infection is hitting.

Need to put a full stop to travel to/from China, including freight. If they are going to be wreckless then we need to take action to protect ourselves, and other countries need to do the same. It may also work to fix our broken economy by creating more local manufacturing. For example just look at how fast some companies have been able to start producing medical supplies. We need to continue that for all products once this is all over. Let's bring manufacturing back to North America, now is the time to do it.

21 million cell phones in China have gone dormant during the outbreak.

Chinese use their phones for EVERYTHING. Chinese can't buy anything in lock-down without their phone (and you almost couldn't buy most things without your phone even during normal times). The dormant accounts also show unspent balances.

A lot of those people are dead.

That would shoot ourselves in the foot since we need their freight more than ever right now. Case in point: medical supplies.

Hence wy we need to make our own. Time to break our dependence on China completely. If it's going to be done now is the time. The government would need to incentivize it though through tax breaks or something. Cheap slave labour from China can't be beat cost wise.

Now is when we are least able to. Again: Shooting ourselves in the foot. A return to self-sufficiency is a long-term goal.
