Most of us already knew this. Also he should leave his anti-who sentiments out of his messages, even if he is right, it dilutes his main point.

Like Ive said before, just look at Japan's numbers. But then again, people will make up any excuse to dismiss numbers as false. Many said japan was lying because of the olympics. Almost everyone says china is lying because china. The WHO might be a farce, but really we did this to ourselves folks. Its time to use the data to our advantage instead of dismissing the data as fake news. Time to put down the flat earth playbook!
Otherwise, he'll just have a bunch of comments from people parroting WHO's bullshit advice about masks.

The tweet is not from the same author as the NYT article.

That is really eye opening... This virus 70 years ago would have died in China, Wuhan. Even 30 years ago. Globalization is both good and bad at the same time.

I hope you survive the Orange Menace, we need you
It wouldn't have died in China 70 years ago. It would have spread around the globe more slowly.

I'm wondering if all of this social distancing is going to greatly reduce flu-related deaths. Considering influenza is less contagious than Covid, maybe the flu will largely die off in the United States until social activity is resumed. Also, common rhinoviruses and coronaviruses (common cold) could maybe follow the same trajectory? I'm always looking for silver linings these days.

Coronavirus: Anger is growing at China over COVID-19 and its apparent cover-up attempt

Can the government of China can be sued by the families who have lost loved ones around the world? Maybe have its international assets frozen to pay reparations?

Edit - the lawsuits have already begun:

Awesome, what about lawsuits against people who claimed masks didnt work and advised against using them. Man the lawyers are gonna be so busy! Are they considered essential services?

Has anyone started selling home test kits yet? I'd like to get one. I'm asymptomatic, but I'm preeeeeety sure I've been exposed multiple times.

Globalism is good for being able to utilize slave labor without the repercussions, and giving an "out of sight out of mind" attitude to everyone that doesn't live in those respective countries.

So basically, it allows you to create products more cheaply (labor), use cheaper parts (with less scrutiny/oversight over what parts are used), and allows you to do convenient things like avoid disposal laws/fees of developed countries.

All the while back in the developed countries, people who don't have white-collar technical skills are essentially screwed. And thus you have a mega-jump in drug use and homelessness over the last 30 years.

But hey - You can buy cheap shit!

Perhaps the only thing that globalism has helped is perhaps one day those countries that are now producing will eventually become developed as well, since they now have somewhat of an economy. Personally though, I don't ever see a place like India being fully developed. Ever.

The US Postal service is required in the Constitution...the federal government literally cannot let it fail.

They were carful never to claim that N95 doesn't work. You can really see how they carefully parsed their words to say that about surgical masks and imply it for all masks while not actually saying that about N95 and better.

The FDA put the kibosh on home swabbing for molecular testing I think. Antibody tests should be available soonish as production scales up.

No, it simply gives them the authority to establish one. It says they "may."

That's why the Federal government is allowed to compete with private enterprise in that way.

Has anyone seen any information as to how the this virus affects people in general with regard to the initial viral load size and infection? I would think if a person gets initially infected with a small amount of the virus would fare better than a larger amount of the virus with all other variables( age, pre-existing health ailments, etc) the same.

Just got back from groceries, did a really good trip where I made a proper list, so I can make it count. It's so eerie going now. Been a couple times for 1 little item in and out but this was my first full groceries since right before the "lock down". There is this odd feeling of being self aware of everything I touch and seeing the trip or any outing as a risk. Just a totally different way of thinking. Like I was using one hand to open freezer doors and other hand to get items, then before I start touching anything else I'd spray my hands with my alcohol bottle I brought. Seeing some people walking around with masks too, never seen that here before. It's just a completely different world it seems. Some of the precautions may seem over exaggerating especially given the small number of cases here but it's better safe than sorry really. I think we're at like 13 now.

I think the main questions right now are:

1. How long will this last? (worldwide, that is)

2. Can you test to see if you already got it?

3. Can you get it again?
4. - 6. Will it mutate and dodge the latest vaccine or people's infection conferred immunity? And then do it again? And get worse (i.e. more contagious and/or more deadly)?

I watched an interview with Bill Gates, and he warned Trump a few years ago that something like this could happen. He listened, but didn't act.

Bill Gates know that something like this could happen. And, no one listened.

My prediction is August before any kind of thought about vacations can begin and next year before major return to normal.
I'm thinking the Japanese have their fingers crossed with their now dates decided Olympics hosting in 2021 ... behind their backs, of course. The pandemic may well not be sufficiently controlled by then to warrant the risks.

I got all dressed up to run to the store to get some chicken and hopefully rice. Everyone here is still in bed, so I thought going early would be a good idea. As I was getting my boots on I started to think about some other things we might need. The "list" was getting longer, but some of the stuff I added I started to question if we really needed it. I took my boots off and decided not to head out until I went over the list with the wife. I figure if I'm going out, I might as well make it a run worth risking, and get everything we need. In my area, countywide, there is 10 confirmed, which isn't much, but still better safe than sorry.

I'm seeing a lot of upset posts on FB feed about how our county pub health isn't disclosing where our confirmed cases are located, at least at the city level. I decided to look at what other jurisdictions are posting, and they're not being as specific either save for one who posts the city and number of confirmed. Our pub health is citing potential HIPPA violations if they disclose the actual location. Are your jurisdictions or neighboring jurisdictions being specific about what cities these confirmed cases are in? Is releasing info as to what city confirmed cases are in a HIPPA violation?

Edit: I realize most of you prob live in a city, I was more curious if your Pub Health orgs are releasing that info.

I came back to work last night. Low and behold, all the intubated COVID patients are on propofol.

Propofol is a known chelator of zinc.

Zinc is widely known to play a crucial role in immune function. Also lower levels in sepsis are associated with increased IL-6 and IL-8 levels. Not good for cytokine storm.

Zinc is thought to interfere with coronavirus replication.

So far my google fu has come up with nothing as to recommendations with COVID.

I wonder if anyone is doing a study or if there are studies comparing propofol vs sedation with fentanyl/versed/paralytic.
