Is this like when Elon Musk donated a bunch of discontinued BPAP machines he sourced from China and called them ventilators?

The FDA actually added CPAP & BiPap machines as a mitigation strategy recently, so it was a first-wave effort from Tesla as an immediately-usable solution through a donation channel:

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), auto-CPAP, and bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP or BPAP) machines typically used for treatment of sleep apnea (either in the home or facility setting) may be used to support patients with respiratory insufficiency provided appropriate monitoring (as available) and patient condition.

if you've got a good job or business it's just about the best place to be

but other than that yeah you're kinda screwed

I think it depends what brings you happiness in life.

Here in the US a lot of people just simply have unrealistic minimal expectations. A lot of stems from keeping up with the Jones'

People expect these at MINIMAL:
-Apartment to yourself, a lot say 2bedroom minimum.
-Smartphone with data service, with specific minimal expectations for "latest"
-Expectations to be able to go out to eat on a semi-regular basis.
-Semi new car

I just think of my days back to being in college... sharing a 4 bedroom apartment with others... I think my rent was about $400? I don't understand why people feel entitled to their own private apartment just because you're human. God forbid you have your own bedroom and share the kitchen with a couple others... You might just have this crazy thing called social interaction....I don't think there is a single country that has that kind of entitlement mentality where you expect to be able to afford a private residence at all times.

And he also sourced and delivered actual ventilators as well. I do not understand Tesla and Elon Musk haters. It's like they hate humanity.

News Headlines I've seen today recently.

US officially hit the 10,000 death mark.

Boris Johnson of UK was admitted to hospital

Boris Johnson has subsequently been moved to an ICU after his conditions have worsened.

People like this need to be charged.

As a side note also overheard about someone that just came back from Cuba in my city and refuses to self isolate. Not much details as the person just overheard the conversation. I don't even know why they are still letting people in the country at this point, they had at least a month now to come back. Lock down the border, only truckers should be allowed in and out.

Let's face it, the USA is not a first world country. It's a 3rd class country.
I've visited lot of countries. For all our many faults, USA is still the greatest country and envy of the world. It's beyond retarded to think it's 3rd class country. You're damn lucky you were born here. In many other countries, you would probably be already dead. It pisses me off when people don't appreciate what they have and don't know how freaking lucky to have been born in this great country. You won the fucking sperm lottery. Billions of people on earth would trade places with you in an instant if given the chance.

If you spend 1/4 of your life going to school so you can work all day for most of the rest of it, and then retire and die a few years later, this is fairly basic expectations. AT MINIMUM being able to live in your own place should be a guaranteed and accessible thing. It's not really asking for a lot.

At best, BPAP machines are called non-invasive ventilators. I haven’t seen confirmation anywhere that Tesla has delivered invasive ventilators to hospitals. FWIW, BPAP machines may not be what the doctor has ordered.

seriously its comedy central you saying its not suppose to be funny? FUCK THAT i dont even have cable or any tv at all but when i do watch stuff i like comedy action. i dont watch cnn for comedy but comedy central DUH of course it should be amusing.
I wasn't trying to say it's wrong to expect funnies out of Comedy Central or that it's wrong to laugh or enjoy comic relief. What I was saying is that it seemed to me that people dismissing Trevor Noah's recent videos (and seemingly without even checking them out) centering on covid-19 news topics because they feel he fucked up a Comedy Central show was short sighted and unfair. He's perceptive and witty and he does his homework at least on the pandemic, and that's way more I can say about 95++% of the people I see dealing with the pandemic in the media.

For me, hating on stuff is emotionally, mentally, and physically draining. But I think it gives some people fuel for the fire through that bittersweet feeling of being vindictive. Outside of hoping to ride stock prices down or something, I don't understand why people waste their time hating on public figures like Musk. Sure, he can be an arrogant billionaire, but who cares? Out of the literally millions of things available for people to do, why would you spend your time hating on a stranger who has had zero effect on your life?

It's the same thing with my friends IRL who get really wound-up about politics. All they want to do is complain & get angry & shout & argue about it. They're not activisits, they don't write letters to their senator, they do zilch. Ultimately, the only thing that happens is that their blood pressure rises & everyone around them rolls their eyes as their opinions get aired. I don't think it's a bad thing to discuss politics by any means, but you know the kind of person I'm talking about...they get all fired up to make a point in the moment & don't want to do anything other than be domineering & whine about things & put in zero effort into actually changing things. It's just a self-satisfaction exercise at that point, and usually either drives other people away or gets them all wound up too.

I much prefer simply wasting my time neffing aimlessly on ATOT, hahaha.

You don't travel much outside your bubble, do you? If you do, you wouldn't make that statement. I have been to numerous countries around the world. From rich to poor and in between.

How poor you say? How about day labors make about $2 USD per day if they are lucky. They work every much everyday...ie. if they don't work, they don't eat. No unemployment benefit, no health insurance, no thing but back breaking work from dawn to dust.

That's why I shake my head whenever I see individuals in the US whine and bitch about anything and everything under the sun and blame their situations on <insert so many pathetic excuses here>. Ungrateful bastards.

If the US is so bad, why there are million and million of people are waiting in line for years to get here the legal way and millions and millions of others are trying to sneak in/overstay ILLEGALLY?

Plus for all the countries you want to idolize, they don't have any "open borders" policies little buddy.

Yet for some reason folks here think that should be the case?

Regardless, it's a known fact (to anyone that cares of facts) that the US allows more immigration than any other developed country.

One of those is unlike the other in that its a basic human need and the others are luxuries. A 2 bedroom apartment is in no way a luxury for the typical family of 4. Capitalism has failed the housing market for the "middle class" plain and simple. A bare bones piece of shit 2BR where I live starts at $800K.

The overwhelming majority of the US population is unmarried. So... no, family of 4 is not a standard.

If prices are that high for a 2BR then it would cost you FAR less to move your shit than it would to buy such a crazy price.

When society drops its archaic 9-5 and expectations to be in office, I'll do just that. Until then, even though I don't work 9-5 like everyone else, I'm still best off staying in an area where my market is hot and employment comes easy until I can comfortably FIRE. And surprise surprise, those areas are expensive.

In my opinion, housing should be socialized because it is a basic human need. Let the actual demand for shelter and the need for a place to live dictate price and not profit. It's not something that should be profited off. Luxuries within the shelter, sure. But credit lines should be obliterated so people can no longer buy luxuries they cannot afford. No more $1,500 phones, no more $3000 OLED TVs, no more $50,000 cars, etc. And yet still society would be a lot happier since it wouldn't have to worry so much about a roof over its head. But I get that would be the equivalent of dropping an atomic bomb on our credit and debt driven economy. Those at the top - making unnecessary millions and billions wouldn't have it.

This is accurate in raw totals only IIRC. Per capita US immigration rate is somewhere in the lower half of OECD nations.

I didn't say we were the worst or among the worst. I said we're 3rd rate. That's better than 7th rate. Or 8th rate. Obviously, being put on unemployment and losing your health care insurance makes you an unfortunate citizen of a country that doesn't much care to insure your health. Even fucking Medicare doesn't give shit if your teeth rot. These things make US 3rd rate. Great place to be if you've got big bucks. The social safety nets in the USA suck. Face it. 3rd rate.
