Residents of Hawaii and members of Costco are responding to rumors that sneezing caused by Coronavirus causes you to poop just a little bit.

Y'all don't think ya' might be overreacting just a wee bit?

Kinda' like trying to guide an errant asteroid to kill the fly buzzing around your sandwich?
I wouldn't say that picking up a small supply of non-perishables is overreacting, just being prudent. If supply lines go to shit, I don't wanna be the one wiping my ass with pine cones, literally and figuratively speaking.

Latest news -

Company wide email about this virus from Risk Management/Safety Department sent out this morning.

As I said a few days ago, I was able to get surgical masks from a well know pharmacy chain. Yesterday after work, went to the same store, all out. Went to 2 other stores from the same chain. No go. All out.

Amazon is threatening to remove any seller that would mark up the face masks too high on its site.

Went to Sam's Club (no Costco here) after that and pick up a pack of 40 bottles of water (16.9 oz each) and the stock was running low. A employee was trying to stock up those pallets of water bottles.

Get ready folks. It will be a bumpy ride.

Another funny one, hand sanitizer is 99% sold out on Amazon. It's all either back-ordered, or marked up to nutty degrees.

I love when art intersects with reality.

Akira (1988) was set in 2019. In it, there was a sign counting down to the Tokyo Olympics with 147 days remaining, underneath which was grafitti'd 'Just cancel it!' Today marks 147 days until the Tokyo olympics, and 'Just Cancel It!' is now trending in Japan apparently.

Just in case you missed it: minimum effective mask is N95. "Surgical masks" won't cut it, unfortunately.

N95s went out of stock most places quite a while ago.

why the run on bottled water? Is covid19 supposed threaten municipal water supply? Even if it does... I would think boiling it should be enough to kill any virus

More about people do not want to be in a crowd with a lot of people when disaster struck. WHO is saying better to keep 3 ft or more from potential carrier(s) - https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses

Plus common sense. You need to have spare water, dried foods, backup power, and cleaning supplies in any adverse situation.Just in case. Some could go overboard and start hoarding.

Svnla, where are you located?

Deep South of the US. Graduated from Red Neck R Uz University with sucka lum sum designation.

Because people are dumb?

I for one have this thing called a faucet which dispense's water which while it may not taste great is safe to drink and almost certainly will continue to flow.

More likely that most people already have some dried goods on hand, but don't generally have bottled water as they don't generally foresee the need for it. When it looks like shit's about to hit the fan, you take stock of what you need, and if you need water, water's what you get.

People as a group may be dumb, but it's dumber to not have water when you need it than to have it when you don't need it.

Stocking up on bottled water prior to a hurricane for example which has a decent chance of actually having an effect on water supply makes sense.

This is more like the semi-panic you see in every grocery store when a 3-inch snowfall is incoming.

And sadly people are not only dumb as a group... individuals may be less prone to hysteria but stupidity is not in any kind of short supply.

I don't even think about stocking up on bottle water because I always have 3-4 cases at the house. For $3 for 40 bottles, why not?

I find Naproxen (Aleve) to be the most effective OTC pan reliever personally, however its seriously hard on your stomach, especially if taken a bunch of times and without much food. Might be safest to go with Acetaminophen. (Tylenol)

I can think of any number of reasons to avoid buying bottled water but to each his own. I have a high quality ceramic filter myself and mostly use a refillable glass bottle.

I carry around drink tumbler but sometimes bottle water is just easier. I can respect people who don't buy bottle water for environmental reasons.

Yeah that my main reason along with cost ... even if cheap its still a lot more expensive then filtered. Don't get me wrong I do buy bottles once in awhile myself.

Oh, to be clear, I didn't buy the bottled water to be drinking it normally. It's literally just there for if something happens to my electricity for an extended period of time (well water). I usually just have a bottle I fill up out of the tap.

I would expect most to be doing this, if they're buying bottled water when they usually do not.
