i just work through it. my chest hurts almost all the time, and stomach and headaches come and go. people at work keep asking me if i'm OK and i tell them i'm fine. doctors didn't find any major problems though so maybe it's just me going crazy.

i'm actually sitting here trying to finish a few hours of work stuff today so i am caught up for monday morning. otherwise i'll just need to work late again.

Little Miss Brian,
Pretending to be a strong lion,
Has too much work and no play;
Along came a virus,
Who threatens him lifeless,
And frightened Miss Brian, not today.

Here in southern Ontario(Toronto and Ottawa), I have never seen rice/pasta/flour/frozen veggies section so low in stock.

i just want to retire. if healthcare wasn't such a large variable cost in the US, i could pull it off.
Higher pay makes retirement come faster.

I gave up amazing benefits at the acounting firms, but it made up for it with...
1. The higher pay of course.
2. Higher matching (4% match on higher salary)
3. ESPP offers at 15% discount = immediate profit if sold quickly.
4. Much more free time, less stress, more productivity.

Just sayin' I'm shooting for retirement as well. That and you can have all the retirement you want, if work kills you early in life can't say that you got a good deal in life.

Here's a bit of good news. Sorry if it's a repost since the article is from about 9 days ago. Someone fully recovered from the coronavirus:

Btw the Aliens movie reference a couple posts above seems fitting but hopefully it doesn't turn out to be literal.

good news indeed. also watched a video interview of a guy from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that has tested positive. He basically said he never had any symptoms at all no cough, fever, congestion at all. He says every he is tested everyday and so far each test is positive. He needs two negative tests in a row before he can discharged. btw; he mentioned that he is a transplant patient considered at increased risk. Strange the different ways this virus is affecting people.

I saw the video too and I noticed it was on a news station of a certain persuasion. No reflection at all on you echo. I'm dancing around with words here, using code phrases to avoid politics. Is that ok to talk this way in this thread? Probably not so I'll knock it off but it's so tempting to make very subtle references like this.

Not so strange when you think about it. Transplant recipients are typically on anti-rejection drugs that suppress the immune system. In an immunosuppressed individual you wouldn't expect to see most symptoms that are also immune system responses. All of the "flu-like symptoms" we look for are immune system responses, including inflammation, fever, and excess mucous with associated coughing.

Hope we aren't manufacturing asymptomatic carriers by ignoring these individuals as we screen for symptoms!

How do related symptoms like pneumonia not show?

Otherwise what the hell part of the virus is killing you?

There has to be some kind of symptom otherwise it insinuates that when it kills someone they can just be running around feeling fine and then magically fall over and die.

Not every who gets it gets pneumonia. He probably and fortunately had a mild case (which the majority are) despite his being high risk for complications given his immunosuppression.

Pneumonia often follows damage to your lungs from coughing, inflammation, etc.

In some cases your own immune response is essentially suffocating you. In others it caused damage to your lungs that opened you up to secondary infections, like bacterial pneumonia. There was a lot of bacterial pneumonia with 1918 Spanish Flu and a serum for that ended up saving some people.

Obviously, we can't just connect everyone to an iron lung or blood oxygenator or whatever until it passes to save them. IIRC, a high fever alone can cause brain damage if you don't get it down fast enough.

I wonder how many people out there in the US have coronavirus and have been misdiagnosed as having the flu or just a common cold. Personally, I've been hacking up a lung for the past two weeks, and nobody even bothered to ask me about my travel history when went into my local clinic this week for a diagnosis. I don't think that my local medical staff is even ready to properly diagnose coronavirus, let alone treat it.

Right now, their best guess for me is a viral resporatory infection with bronchitis. I hope that they are right about that, or I might have personally spread the virus throughout southeastern Connecticut singlehandedly

This is a myth, only a temperature above 108 will cause brain damage, and a fever that high is nearly impossible unless you are in a very hot environment.

I could see it being possible, there are places down south that can get up to like 40C in summer. Imagine being in one of those places with no A/C and you have a fever. I guess that would be bad for you even if not sick though. Is there something like hypothermia, but with heat?

Yeah, hyperthermia

I've worked in environments where you could cook up to 118 if you didn't drink an absolutely huge amount of water, and stay inside.

So, have you traveled recently? If so where? If you have traveled, especially somewhere with an outbreak, why didn't you tell your doctor instead of waiting to be asked?

Not that it really matters, just curious. How is the corona virus test done? Blood, mouth, nasal swab? Something else?

Then I guess it isn't a myth. I did say "a high fever" and you basically repeated exactly what I had heard.

I didn't travel overseas, but I did go to the local casino around Chinese New Year. You wouldn't believe the amount of Chinese tourists that place gets. Why go to China to get Coronavirus when virus can come to me?

what seriously? i was told that getting to 105 would cause seizures and brain scarring, at least if you are young
