Same for the US. My estimation is that a large number of Chinese people traveled into China and back out again for the Chinese new year. Those that have the means are business owners who run restaurants and nail salons, massage parlors, etc. There are more Chinese restaurants in the continental US than McDonald's.

Making a point that there's potential with the underground labor networks to have been bringing people into the country for the past few months undetected. Depending on when it actually started up, the virus has been in the wild longer than anyone will admit.

Just buckle up and stay healthy. Drink lots of fluids (not from a public water fountain) and try to weather the storm that's sure to be ahead.
No doubt that cases have gone undetected in the US for weeks. Wouldn't be surprised at all if several COVID-19 deaths were mistakenly attributed to flu/pneumonia in the US, and the number of actual infected is well into the thousands.

i actually hope that is the case, that would mean it is very contagious, but not much of a serious health concern if it has been spreading for a long time, and its not killing enough people to significantly up the "flu" death count.

I bought an ozone generator back in December. That will kill viruses in seconds at a concentrations of .4 ppm... It makes me sad my garage is 900 square feet with 10 foot ceilings...I'd have to generate a lot of gas in there to make it a quarantine/clean room.

I thought of buying one too, could be a good thing to have in an emergency to try to create a quarantine zone or just clean room. You could even install it in the furnace return if you wanted to do the whole house though you would need to vacate all people, pets and even plants. But can at least do a small room.

I live next to cows in nowhereland. I don't need no stinkin ozone generators, the cows will swat the virus with their magical tails.

Just as good is that I own a copy of the zombie survival guide. Good read for those sticky situations.

They should just start converting/renting Princess Diamond or other cruises into ICUs if at all possible for the coastal cities. I worry about our ability to fight this. China built new "hospitals" in days. and shut everything down. South Korea seems to have some handle on it, but they've been fast to act to try to get ahead of it. We're just sitting back and... waiting - is western society is too good to be inconvenienced by this!?

22 dead (so far) in TN due to a couple of hours of storms.

How many in the US total now from this bug?
Total US dead now from coronavirus is irrelevant.

The US could easily see hundreds die a day from COVID-19 within a couple months, and eventually thousands dead a day. And if thousands dead a day doesn't happen in the US it could very well happen elsewhere.

I'm still completely-and-utterly undecided how worried to be about this thing, but that's not much of an argument. The point is not the number of deaths now, it's the question of what is going to happen in the future - as globally the evidence seems to be this grows quite rapidly once it gets going. But we still don't really know the fatality rate. It seems very, very likely its going to grow exponentially, but Lord alone knows how many deaths that actually translates to.

I don't see any reason to believe that the deaths from those storms are going to grow exponentially over the next few months - still less that they are going to spread all over the planet - so it's not in any sense the same sort of problem.

I think the point is NOT about how many deaths but how we (US and the rest of the world) are going to handle this mess.

We do not know for sure how this thing was created, how it was passed from Wuhan to the whole mainland china and to the neighbors and then to every continent on Earth except Antarctica (maybe it is sooner or later). We do not have anything to fight this virus until at least a few more months (at best situation). We do not know the rate of fatality and on and on. In short, we very much know very little about this corona virus except it is here and knocking on our doors.

It could be a minor disruption or a huge major catastrophe. The uncertainty IS the problem.

He doesn't have any training or expertise in the medical field. He taught them basic english language. The video I linked was from Nathan Rich has made ultra pro-China videos but his video about Serpent is mostly correct.
LOL! Obvious disingenuous griefer is obvious. A much more telling video from years ago:

Raw and honest.

It was never about whether or not he has "training" in the medical field. It was about his insight into it and contacts within it... which he obviously has directly and through his wife.
Well, well, well... today I spotted and uncovered a CCP 50¢ Army social media guerilla propagandist in the comments section of that video. Of course, he was trolling a pro-Winston comment thread. Winston warned us about these guys and made it clear that they were pushing their own narrative to The West about SARS-CoV-2 using their influence in the WHO.

Caught him red-handed trying to influence people on a website his countrymen can't even legally access due to government censorship. He even tried to cover it up by deleting/hiding the only two videos on his 8 year old channel. Both videos were from a few weeks ago and both were promoting China/WHO perspective in the West.

In case anyone thinks that sort of thing doesn't happen:

Got one! Well, he just gained another subscriber. Time to move on to one of his other government-sponsored shill accounts.

Prepare for H#N# Pandemic Bovine Influenza 2020. No one knows where the zoonotic strain first jumped to humans after a certain biker in Nowhereland took that secret to his grave.

I don't get why people are stocking up on water. It's not like our local water system is going to be infected. I'm beginning to think that we are getting a little crazy with this.

Just think about how stupid the average person is.

And then remember that 50% of the population is stupider than that.

Also think about who was elected into office.

It's really not hard to see why people are acting how they are.

Why does everyone assume it has anything to do with fear over supply disruption? It has to do with staying home. If you prefer bottled water to tap water and you don't want to break your self-imposed quarantine/isolation just to go get some more when you run out, you buy more now.

Duh.

I mean, it's the main reason people are buying the other goods they're buying too. If things take a turn for the worse and they need to hole up at home, well, they aren't going out for a Big Mac or a can of peas or a bottled water. They can't exactly keep a 2-month stash of Big Macs but they can buy all the water and peas they want right now.

It's fun to posture and pretend everyone else is dumb, but this lack of perspective is getting old.

I get having supplies, but I just don't get why anyone at any time needs bottled water at home, use reusable containers and use tap water, and filters if you want the chlorine taste out. Way more economical and better for the environment. The bottled water industry is a terrible one that needs to stop being supported.

Not convinced. If you have finite storage space, and finite carrying capacity, why make water a priority for stocking up? It's very bulky and you can get it from the tap. It's also environmentally irresponsible to 'prefer' bottled water to tap water (if you don't live somewhere where the water is genuinely unsafe, and if you do you probably need to change your govenrment).

Nah, stocking up on bottled water is silly.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/03/who...-globally-higher-than-previously-thought.html

New death rate estimate is 3.4% says WHO. That's freaking high estimate.

I really don't understand the WHO. For starters, they've been publicly praising China to the skies in a way that seems a bit odd. Now they are quoting death rates that completely ignore all the uncounted infection cases, and thus putting out questionable high numbers that are going to alarm everyone.
And then at the end they say

"what we have been genuinely heartened by is that unlike influenza, where countries have fought back, where they've put in place strong measures, we've remarkably seen that the virus is suppressed "

Which surely can only be referring to China, as nowhere else has (allegedly) suppressed the virus. But do they seriously believe democracies can do what China did? What planet is this guy on?

That whole article is baffling.

Lots of people don't drink tap water unless they have to. They normally drink bottled water. It has nothing to do with SARS-CoV-2.

Some do it for convenience... carry on a walk, take to work, keep next to the bed, etc.

Some do it because they don't trust municipal water treatments.

Some do it because their well water is high in minerals like copper and tastes terrible.

Some do it because they were told the minerals in their preferred spring water is healthy.

Seems like a stupid thing to do when tap water is practically free. People have to start thinking more about the environment and not buying bottled water is a very easy step instead of finding excuses.
