15 new cases reported in South Korea. That means roughly 30 new confirmed cases outside of China in the past 24 hours. By my own napkin math, that's the highest acceleration of new confirmed cases yet.

I'm not paying much attention to the China numbers, because China. And I'm not paying attention to the cruise ship numbers, because cruise ship.

EDIT: Here's some graph things.

Thanks for the laugh.

I'll sum it up for everyone else:
The US asked their own soldiers not to use TikTok and WeChat so they wouldn't see the the wartime atrocities the US is commiting in China through germ warfare, thus, germ warfare is confirmed.

That's one of many similar leaps of logic that ignore actual, more-obvious/likely, reasons. Guess that's why they don't want them using Huawei phones either, right? Huawei phones might subvert American propaganda streams by exposing the truth!

"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." Seems to fit here.

Predicatable. The same thing happened with the Corrupted Blood epidemic: Epidemiologists noted that people went into towns spreading it deliberately.

We need to act fast in order to save the World...

haha, that's awesome.

ToR did a similar event some years after that, but it was purposeful. You go get infected by a special thing, bring it back to the hub, and players gather around the infected player to get infected, and die....because every time you die you can some fancy currency. Rinse repeat. Stay logged in, maybe keylogg your character to suicide themselves after certain point of infection, respawn, then run back to sick mob to get infected again.

not nearly as interesting as the unintended WoW thing that created an actual problem, but it this reminded me of that.

Also this rule of thumb: If the article title is a question, this article is not worth your time, and certainly not worth your brain power. Journalism makes declarative statements--whichever ones they can based on the evidence that the reporter has gathered. If the so-called article is simply asking a question, you expect that it is just going to toss out situations and issues that were certainly not investigated by the author (because you wouldn't be asking the question) and only exist to raise doubt, and fallaciously conflate the notion that shotgunning bits of information out is the same as reporting on a topic, and making a claim.

Another pretty good one was Geddon's bomb from way back in Vanilla... he'd cast a debuff that'd detonate a ~30 yard instakill for anyone not raid geared after x seconds, but he'd cast it on pets as well. At that point in time, debuffs persisted on pets, so some enterprising hunters would dismiss pet during the fight once it got the debuff on it, then not re-summon until they were out of the raid. In the Orgrimmar auction house, for instance. Easy way to wipe out a few hundred nubbins, unfortunately that was more of a nuke than a plague.

2 more died in Iran. China does shady business with ME countries like Iran who are good at suppressing info, so who knows what's going on there.

Hey, look on the bright side...

China's carbon emissions have dropped by least 100 million metric tonnes over the past two weeks, according to a study published on Wednesday by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) in Finland.

That is nearly six percent of global emissions during the same period last year.

The rapid spread of the novel coronavirus—which has killed over 2,000 and infected more than 74,000 people across China—has led to a drop in demand for coal and oil, resulting in the emissions slump, the study published on the British-based Carbon Brief website said.

Especially when it's a blog written by someone who claims "I was provided with certain operations and probes (placed within my brain). This enables me to alter my reality; my world-line."

None of that sort of thing makes much sense to me - why would you employ a weapon that is likely to come right back on you? Like releasing poison gas when the wind could change direction at any moment.

Bio-weapons would surely have to be something way more sophisticated.

What _is_ worrying, now I come to think about it, is how such conspiracy theories can spread and take hold among the susceptible, especially in the presence of nationalism. That''s another potential bad effect if this does become a global pandemic. Not just the disease itself, but the economic effects, and then the political effects as it increases paranoia and distrust.

Come here to post this, both dead WTF. They need to give people a bit more info than just 2 dead.

Yeah, it makes me wonder how long these individuals had symptoms and how long they were hospitalized. I find it doubtful that these were the only cases Iran knows about.

Wow, the management of the infection on that cruise ship sounds like a total failure, very surprised Japan would screw up this badly

Not trying to politicize this, but what government has ever done a good job of containing corruption, epidemics, wartime crimes, etc?

I can't think of a country that doesn't have blood on their hands from horrendous actions in the past.

Just on the face of it when the qualifications for people getting into office is simply voting them in - then all you really need under your belt is some good salesman psychology.

Two people from the cruise ship died today.

Also, today was the largest increase in cases outside of China (not including the cruise ship numbers), which was largely due to an explosion of new cases throughout South Korea.

Does anyone happen to know why the # of cases in US dropped from 29 to 15? I thought I heard there were 14 cases specifically in Nebraska (something to do with the Japan cruise ship I believe) which is how it jumped to 29, but the tracking site reverted back down to 15 yesterday, even though it was showing 29 for some days prior.

The Johns Hopkins tracker has a lot of issues and will often report erroneous numbers for a bit until they are ultimately corrected.

I would advise going HERE to get the most accurate and up-to-date numbers. Even the Wikipedia page is more reliable than the Johns Hopkins thing.
