For mission critical workstation environments...

So is RAID 5 alone going to cut it?

I'm wondering if it's possible to setup a network with multiple computers that must rely on each other if in case even a RAID 5 setup alone, is not worthy enough for very important data to not be lost. The continuous cycle of accessing this data must be constant (24/7) and to never become inaccessible according to certain measures.

If this technology exists, please let me know, thank you, as I do plan in the future to contain/maintain environments that need mission critical security to its maximum potential, that technology can possibly extend to.

You could build 2 servers with raid 5 array. Then there is this software that keeps the 2 computers synchronized. I dont rember what its called but google pretty much knows everything.

Take a look at this

this is what a storage area network is for...non-stop access to data.

But it costs a pretty penny.

Best Buy has an External Hard Drive solution called Mirra that I'm pretty sure can do what you say. Visit the website or go to a store and check it out.

NAS, SAN, redundent failover servers. Partition yor LUNS so you have 2 raid 5's that are in a raid 1 (might require linux for this, not sure if windows had anything that will do this reliably).

SAN, SAN, SAN. This is really what you are looking for. And no, they are not nearly as expensive as they once were. They do have the multiple levels of redundancy that you are looking for.

However, another option. A good old RAID5 file server with GB network to all of these critical workstations. Then just back it up every evening. Or, go RAID5 in each workstation (or just RAID1) and back them up every evening. Just depends on whether or not you want a single data location, or multiple locations. Whatever the case for day to day operations RAID1/5 and a daily backup should be more than enough. If you really want more, then you will really need to front some cash for a decent SAN.

You can make a cron job for rsync...

No-one think to ask what he's planning on using it for? The answer depends upon the right question being asked...
