In the 90s?? What you talking about? I start whining when it gets above 75.

i don't mind sweating in a hot room if i'm naked. i just hate having drenched clothes on. Though i can't sleep at all in high humidity but i guess if you grow up being hot all the time without relief, you get used to it but i don't see how tribes in the rain forests can stand it, no way they get much of a breeze in the thick jungle

I'd like to eventually get central air, but so far my 1 ton portable unit is doing a decent job at keeping the house within 25C and my office within 22C (it's in the office). it actually hit near 30C in my office the other day when I walked in. D: Thankfully I was able to get it down to 22C within an hour so I just went to watch TV meanwhile.

True enough...I always love it about the end of September to mid-October when you guys get your summer...and it hits 100 for a few days.

You could try installing a new start/run capacitor, there usually below $10. Hopefully it's not your compressor, how old is the unit?..

swapped it with a spear. got to talking to the neighbor who was kinda surprised it was on a 10 amp breaker. is that something i should be worried about?

A central unit on a 10 amp breaker? Are you sure?
Sounds small...
Can you check the nameplate data on the AC?

I have it hooked up with a spare 10 amp. should i swap it for a 20 (witch is what my neighbor suggested)?

i really don't want to pester my AC/heater guy. while he is being nice i don't want to tick him off.

Depending on the ac 10 amps might not be enough. I had a 10000 btu window unit that pulled ~8 amps.

Just to rub it in. Currently it is 59 hear, high should be in the 60s

10 amp sounds way too small for a central AC unit...

Heck, a vacuum cleaner uses 10 amps.

Yeah i pulled it out and put in another 10 amp that was empty.

My ex-wife mentioned something. The guy that finished my basement (this winter )carried out a box of breakers. Now i have a bunch of 10 amp breakers in it.

this is the FIRST year i have EVER had a problem with the AC (we have it checked every 2 years (and cleaned)). so we are thinking he replaced a bunch with lower.

and yes i do think it is possible. this rat bastard stole $1500 from the girl scouts this year! (sold cookies and kept the money)

You need to go outside and look at the unit. Somewhere at the back, usually where the copper pipes and electrical goes in, there should be a small nameplate about 2"X3" it will list off all the information about it. Look for a section that says minimum circuit ampacity. Your breaker should be that big.

Do you have some pictures of the setup? I've never even seen a 10 amp breaker

here it is out of the box. like i said i pulled it out and swapped with a extra.
It says 10.000 amp so either its 10 amp or 10000 amp! hehe

what's it say on the switch side?(top side) they are usually rated on the lever or close by.

and why is there only 1?? (or is that a tandem breaker?) That's the breaker for the outside unit? There should be 2 breakers tied together for 240V.

oh it says 15 on the flipper thing. so its 15? i pulled it and read the 10 amp rating.

it was in teh #1 slot at t he top. there was another below it with nothing on it (same size and brand) so i put the wires from the AC on it and its been working.

it does say 10,000 amps. it will kick in at ~15 but the maximum current it can handle is 10,000

Is your unit a split? Check to see if that breaker is for the inside fan. If that is the inside fan a 15 amp should be enough. Your AC going to be a 2-pole breaker.

If it is in fact the breaker for the inside fan you will probaly need to get someone to check it out. The fan may be about to go or something else is on the same circuit and is causing the fault.

.

EDIT changed 10 to 15 to reflect new info

There are 2 that have AC (this one) says AC there is another that says heater/ac wich i suspect is the blower.
