Board: asus p6td deluxe v1

I've got it up to 3960mhz by only changing the bclk - to 180 and the multiplier to 22
But its not stable - crashed after 30 mins of prime95. EVERYTHING else is an auto. I said I was a noob.

Core temps got up to about 65degrees.

Every time I try to to change voltages I get blue screens or no boots.

CPU-z is telling me the core voltage is 1.312
I've got 12gb geil 7-7-7-24 1600mhz - again all these settings on auto. Dram frequency reported at 540mhz and 8-8-8-20 comand rate 2t.

So I'd love to get it stable at 4ghz. I've seen it go faster but it'll do. Where should I start?

edit: hmm just updated the bios and now cpu-z is reporting changing multipler - it keeps varying between 20 and 22. WTF?

First thing I would do is manually open the DRAM timings to 9.9.9.24. or something similar. If you use HWinfo64 in the summary it should give the timings and speed tiers, use them as a guide to go by.

Those Vcore volts, to me, appear to be at the higher range for ~ 4GHz.

If you don't want the chip to swap between speeds I think the settings you want to disable are C-states and Turbo. Leave speed step on. I may be wrong. I don't have your board I have an Asrock X 58 Extreme.

thanks folks, yeah slowly getting my head around it. got it up to 4.29 ghz, but the multiplier keeps knocking it down when running prime. I suspect CPU temps, but I'll post on that thread jason mentiioned

You need to turn off some of the CPU bios features. 22 will be your top multiplier for the x5650 on all 6 cores.

I'm facing the same issue. Whenever I set the multiplier to 22 and run Prime95, I see it get knocked down to 20 or 21.

I've disabled Turbo and C states.

What other Bios settings should I change ?

I'm not familiar with your BIOS's options so this may or may not be available and it may be called something else in yours. It sounds like you need to enable the "Current Feedback Override" setting if your board has such a thing.

Is your bios similar to this? If so try these settings, but also bump QPI/Dram Core volts to 1.30 - 1.32 (for stability). Asus P6T Deluxe has no adaptive/offset cpu voltage settings, and will not lock multiplier @ 22. Later Asus X58 boards will.

Hi thanks. I do in fact have the same board, its a Asus P6T Deluxe.

I've also read that some motherboards reserve top multipliers for Turbo speeds.

Are you saying that I wont be able to use 22 multiplier at all ?
