Noobish OCing Question....SORRY !

Have read quite a few NOOB guides to OCing and feel like i am ready to learn for myself now...

One question remains.... and i know its proabbly going to seem really stupid - but hey would rather play it safe....

The thing is i often dont have large chunks of free time... so... taking the anandtech post 'Isolate and Consolodate' strategy could I for instance find my MAX HTT, then set bk to normal..... use PC for a while.... find MAX chip capable, reset to normal....use PC a bit, then find MAX MEM.

Finally when i have the 3 figures (- 5%) and have decided how best to consolodate... can i now jump straight back upto the nr (90/95%) MAX OC from stock.... without screwing nething??

Yeah, that should work. Just make sure you run all of the normal stability test programs once you have combined the max htt, max chip, and max mem speeds.

Where did you find the n00b guides? I haven't OC'ed anything since... well check my sig. I'm really outdated with this stuff but need to get back into it. I'm scared to touch my current rig because I forgot how to set everything up! I've heard terms such as PCI Express, Serial ATA, and Dual Core Processors but I have no idea what's good now.

Who makes the best OC? AMD or Intel?

Anyone remember the old Celery 300a @ 450?

It's not who makes the best OC, it's who makes the best CPU and that would be AMD (who's CPU's also overclock nicely). Right now AMD is the king, and most of their $300 or less chips will perform like a FX-55/57 if OCed right.

The top 2 are from the EXCELLENT anandtech forums (CPU section...) but i suggest a bit of reading around the subject (cant do any harm can it???) especially if you have a few yrs catching up to do

Also check out www.dfi-street.com they have some very useful OC articles - even if you DONT have a DFI board still check em out....
