i must be dumber than a dummy because I can't figure this shit out...

I think I'm officially the dumbest poster on these forums - step on my own knuckles regularly when walking - I'm sure you will get it figured out.

What I did was have the instructions available on my PC as I followed the steps on the nook. Ultimately worked for me, although I will say this - I have two of the HD+'s, one running the release candidate of CM10.1 and one on the stock B&N rom. Others will disagree, but I personally don't have any issues with the Barnes and Noble rom. It seems at least as stable to me an CM10.1 and you can always put a different launcher on it (I use Nova) if you don't like the B&N launcher.

I'm confused as to what files I need. the ones I think I need don't seem to be working - they make the sd card inaccessible. i did find one file that allowed me to write the image (i think) and be accessible but I didn't try to boot with it.

so i tried to boot the nook with the one that did seem to work and it did boot to CWM...so I think I might be able to continue now. backing up my current config now.

backup failed, not enough space...it said only 858 mb available. put the card back in the pc and it set up 2 partitions, 1 is only 858 mb in size...had to use sdformatter to change it back to single partition, but now how to I install the image the full sd card? there was no option to save the data anywhere else but on the internal sd card

any way to get flash working on the B&N stock image? I think thats really all I care about at this point, seems to work well for what I want besides that.

woohooo!!! got flash working! also got my stock image backed up.

also got some help from leapinlar on the XDA forums, cleared some confusion.

Rushless' post in this thread got me started
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41165076
I installed the NookHD-HDplus-stock-enable-Unknown-Sources-rev0-(09.08.13) and NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev3-(09.10.13)
mine didn't hang, came right up.

To side load, I I borrowed from this site: http://www.andromint.com/install-flash-player-jelly-bean-android-device/
Basically I used the links there to download flash player for android and put it on an sd card
I then went into the file manager and just clicked on the apk file from there and it installed.
Tested it out on several sites and they all ran with no issue so far.

oh, you also need a flash capable browser like Dolphin.

flash install did not persist after a shut down and restart...

Here is a video that may be more what your are trying to do (keep the nook stuff and still root) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee5PmSYS3GU

I did this first on my PC with a 4GB SD card with the file named: NookHD-bootable-CWM-6027-for-emmc-stock-4GB-rev3-(02.03.13)

To use Win32DiskImager, find it on the web (here, it's free) and install it on your Windows PC. Open it (be sure to run it as administrator) and select the drive (device) that has your card reader with your SD inserted. Then in the image file box put the location where you have the extracted img file. Then when everything is set right, click on the write button. A warning will pop up asking if you want to proceed. When you have verified that you are going to write to the correct device, click on Yes. (One user overwrote their external USB hard drive by not verifying first). With this 4GB image it will take a while. If you get an error message about access denied it means you are looking at the drive with Windows Explorer. Close Windows Explorer and try again. In fact, it is a good idea to close all unnecessary windows when burning, even your browser.

When burning is complete, temporarily remove the card and re-insert again so the PC recognizes the new image.

If you do not have a 4GB or larger SD, you can use my small version of the image, also attached below. It only requires 120MB of space on the SD. And it has all the same features as it's bigger 4GB brother, it is just smaller. But there is not room to put backups on the card. If you use a small card, see item 11 below for workarounds on making backups.

You can use partitioning software, like Mini-Tool Partition Wizard or EaseUS Partition Manager (both free), to can expand the partition to the full size of the SD you burned it to. But I recommend you not use a really large SD to put CWM on. Certainly no larger that 8GB. It is a waste of a big card to use it for stock CWM.

I have a HD so I then used:
NookHD-emmc-stock-recovery-rev0-(07.21.13)
http://get.cm/get/auS (CM 10.1.3 RC2)
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip (gapps)

First thing I did was a backup.

Then I did a wipe data/factory reset.

Then I just installed the 3 zips (order doesn't matter) with Install zip from sdcard.

reboot and remove the SDcard.

done.

I then went to 1mobile and downloaded their app to sideload the Nook App.

1mobile app. Should auto download on the first app selection

I'm not sure i understand. I go to the site on my tablet and it looks like a mobile site m.1moble.com. there is no app to download. it brings up a bunch of games to download.

this app for sideloading to the nook, what is it? Does it make sideloading easier or something?

I went there to reinstall the Nook App. You click the Nook App and it will prompt you to download the 1mobile app. Then it will download the Nook App (or whatever you choose).

It bypasses the warnings that your device cannot install this application which will happen when you root a nook with CM 10.1.3RC2.

I've successfully booted ClockWorkMod from MicroSD and backed up my original Nook config. If I get time tonight I'll try replacing it with CyanogenMod. At first I thought I might keep the Nook OS until I realized their Nook profile feature is useless - it doesn't isolate application config between profiles (like GMail accounts).

Mine took about two weeks from order date till it shipped. Once it shipped it took about four days till it was on my doorstep.

That's bad news. I ordered mine on September 19th, and I'm going back to Brazil on October 4th, so I'll probably won't be able to pick it up here.
Time to cancel the order?

If you purchased from 1sale it will take at a minimum two weeks before they ship it. In some rare cases it may take even longer. At least that is what the ad said when I purchased mine.

I think the ad says 1 to 2 weeks before you get the product.
Is there a way to cancel the purchase through their site?

I purchased mine from 1saleaday via eBay on 9/16 and it was delivered to my home on 9/23. I know some people have had problems with them but my experience was very good. Maybe if you buy through eBay they are more afraid of negative feedback so they ship faster?

Could be true about the Ebay deal, I'm not sure. I ordered mine through the original deal that was posted and it was through their website.

not even had it a week and now it won't power on.
was working fine today, took it to my parents this afternoon and went to turn it on and nothing. just got home and plugged it in to my laptop to charge and the light comes on for about 6 seconds then goes off. doesn't power on.

had lots of charge left when i turned off before i left the house.

so just plugged it directly into the wall and turned on by itself and seems to be working ok. it has 71% battery...

I've got CyanogenMod 10.1.3 installed with multiple user accounts (a feature I really wanted in a tablet so the family can share it) and it's working great. The only bug I've run into into sometimes you can get stuck on the Apps screen - the Nook or Home buttons won't go back to the home screen for some reason.
