Barnes and Noble cut the prices on the nook range for mothersday. The hottest deal is the HD Plus for 179.99. I picked one up. The OMAP 4470 is a bit dated but the 1920x1280 ips screen is top notch. They recently added the Play Store so it doesn't operate much different from a regular android tablet. Really a steal of a tablet at this price. Looks like most places that sell it cut the price.

Here is the 32GB HD+ for $199:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Barnes-%...&skuId=6412767

Sold out online. I checked local availability and it was 50/50 between available and sold out.

Really tempted because it is a nice tablet for the price, especially rooted. I just can't think of any legitimate reason that I would need a tablet, though.

Thanks for that. In stock everywhere around me right now. Might order for in-store pickup now before they go anywhere.

dammit... out of stock everywhere around me all of a sudden

If the friggin best buy app on Android let you buy for local pickup I would have had one, but there was no button for it.

Not sure there's a strong argument for Rooting it: I've read you can boot from its SDHC card, so I'd leave the OS virginal for repairs or resale. A 64GB [max] SDHC card would boot your ROM of choice nicely with gobs of space to spare.

So far we are really happy with our original Nook 16gb. Talking to my wife today asking if after a year she was ready to upgrade, and not really.

I got mine at Target. Same prices as Best Buy.

Visited a Target last evening and they had a number on the locked shelves, though I didn't note the GB-size (16 vs 32).

This sale ENDS 5/11 (Saturday) at Target -- it is not a permanent price drop (or so the tag indicated) -- and the clerk implied it would rise $100 afterward. ('Can't speak to BB's price duration.)

I had an original Nook for a while - the only real reason to root it was to get the Google App store on it, but there's not much need now that they officially support Google play. This is pretty hot, for such as high def display, almost the size of an iPad.

This is probably the best thing you could have got for videos, so good call. While slow compared to a lot of modern devices, it's still a very high quality display and plays videos just fine.

Just an FYI for anybody else who likes Guns & Ammo: the Nook store has it for $1.50/month subscription with a 14 day trial. Reads great on this display.

We bought a 32gb version from our local B&N tonight. My daughter had been saving up for an iPad mini, but she had enough to buy this now. The display is great, and it is very light. Besides getting 32gb, you can also expand the memory. Overall, it's a lot of tablet for he money.

These are the normal prices for these by the way. There was a price drop.

Can you provide proof of this statement? That's not what every place that is selling these has said. The B&N site itself says it's a limited time sale. Target and Best Buy are both selling them for cheaper as well (or even $10 less than the B&N price) and they've said it's a limited time sale.

This isn't the first time I've heard that it's a price drop, but I have yet to see anybody post any proof of that so it just sounds like rumors/speculation. I have no doubt that these will get to these prices permanently at some point, but I believe they'll go back up in price first after this week.

In considering this tablet, a few things stood out and kept me from getting excited.

1) Nook HD+ uses a proprietary connector.
2) Nook HD+ has no camera.
3) Nook HD+ seems to have hit or miss Jelly Bean roots and while you can use Google Play, you have to wonder if B&N stops making this device, how long will support continue?

Given all that and the fact that we pretty much know Google's showing up with a $150 Nexus in the next couple of months, this thing's destined to drop even lower before the end.

And so is the Nexus line.

That said, if you don't mind tossing money away in the long term, in the short term you'd get yourself a bigger tablet than the Nexus 7 with a better resolution and by most accounts a better screen.

Hmmm. You may be right. I'm looking around a bit and some of the tech sites are just indicating "sale" as well. Forgot where I read it. It is awfully coincidental that like a half dozen sites locations are all having a sale the same week though.

considering the price...my kids can deal with whatever it does or doesnt support down the road. $180 for a 9" tablet and they can play games (that i already bought in my play account), read, and watch movies and keep their hands off my transformer infinity

#1 was very surprising to me when I opened the box, because this is the first Nook I've owned that didn't have a microUSB connection. It's even more annoying now that they may stop making them altogether because if my cable goes before I'm done with the tablet it may be hard to find one. I'll have to remember to try and get one cheap if they start clearing them out down the road.

This is back, and even cheaper! $179 for the 32GD Nook HD+. That's a heck of a deal. I got one when it was $199, but haven't opened it, so I'll be bringing it back and getting the $20 difference back. Great Father's Day gift.

I got mine from Sears because there is a loyalty program called SYWR (Shop Your Way Rewards) that has a 10% SYWR$ coupon on electronics.

Staples was clearing out their accessories a while back. They are not selling Nooks anymore.
Got 2 Nook branded cases for $5 each and 2 power/USB cables for $5 each as well.

According to a B&N email I got, this is a Father's Day promotion, good through ~6/16. They had a similar deal for Mother's Day as well.
