I dropped mine the other day - no damage but I ordered another 32 GB version just in case I'm not so lucky next time. Got mine for $165 plus tax from B&N phone order a couple of days ago.

Just wish it had a better dual boot option at XDA. There are times that I use the stock B&N rom as a reader.

You're not interested in this? https://www.n2acards.com/ It's not free, but if you have a Sandisk MSDHC class 4 card already then it's not too bad. Many folks do already have one since SanDisk is so popular.

we are pretty happy with ours, although it can be a bit laggy, especially the web browser. Overall, not bad, but a little dissapointed that it's not quite as smooth as are old iPad 2. Can't beat it for the price, though.

$179 for a 32GB 9" tablet. Jumped on it. The proprietary power connector and inability to install amazon app store sound like minor annoyances, but worth dealing with given the deal.

Phone order option for $165 is still an option this week, but it requires a B&N membership and a little finesse to talk the sales rep into knocking $14 off the price. However, it's a PITA and I wasted all sorts of time going this route vs. just ordering online.

If you've never been a paid B&N member, there's a 2 month free 'trial' membership:
Code:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Membership-Free-Trial/379002829/?

The free 2 months requires a purchase, so you could buy a $10 eGift card (to later apply towards the NOOK purchase) or say a $1 book:
Code:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/adventures-of-pinocchio-carlo-collodi/1001815135?ean=9780486288406

To get the $165 price, order by phone with your member # and tell them you received a coupon code offering the HD+ 32GB. The original codes are all unique but two hashed to 5J8EZB or 5A32TU . These won't work online, so the finesse part is getting the rep to manually do an adjustment (-$14) after providing either coupon code.

Whether you buy online for convenience or by phone, the membership will give you free express shipping (1-2 days). Beats trudging to the mall. I canceled the $1 book off my first order after the fact to save B&N the cost of fulfillment.

The membership does auto-renew, so don't forget to cancel it.

Are these fairly good devices to use, and can you put a different ROM on them? I imagine they will soon lose software support from B&N.

Developer support has been pretty good. There are a few people building Cyanogenmod and they are pretty stable at this point. Dev support will probably only get better with these deep sales going on.

We have been very pleased with the Nook as an entertainment device, but we use laptops or pcs for real computing except away from home for dinner etc. where the nook is a reader while waiting for anything or plays games etc.

Very high level of "would buy again".

It's a Father's Day deal like the one for Mother's Day they did last month, so price is supposed to go up after Sunday. But there will probably be another sale after that until they blow out the remaining stock.

Would the 16GB model be enough, since you can add another microSD later? Any real disadvantage over the 32GB model?

Apps can't be saved to anything but the internal memory.
If you plan on using a lot of media it's fine, but if you use a lot of apps/games, etc it has to all fit on the internal memory. I'd imagine 16BG is enough for most people.

Tons of cases on newegg or amazon. Just picked up one of those rotating cases off amazon for $10.

Loaded CM on it first thing also. Fantastic android tablet, and best of all the kindle app works great.

They've been on sale for well over a month already, and when I went they were already cleared out of cables and good cases unfortunately. I'm sure whatever's left over now is junk if there's anything at all.

Definitely not too big as an e-reader, and I'd spend the extra $30 to get the 32GB version personally even though it does have an SD card slot.

This is a great price for one of the best tablets you can get, hardware-wise, as long as you don't mind not having cameras or GPS.

I agree, I just picked up another 32gb version - one will remain stock as a reader, the other one I installed cm10.1 directly to the emmc.
