yes, ive looked at a ton of screens and vids of the game and IMO, they use the two effects well, unlike other games that simply overkill the DOP and everything is blurry.

GRAW comes to mind.

Well, yes, but I guess I didn't specify that I wanted to see it in DX10. If DX10 is as optimized as it supposedly is, then it would be nice to see LOD disappear.

All the optimizing in the world won't negate the need for LODs. Besides, how much detail are you going to see in an 8,000 triangle model or 2048x2048 texture when it's only a 30-40 pixels large at longer distances?

LODs can be awesome and hardly noticeable when done right. Like anything else, it's only the bad ones you really see.

Well, then I certainly hope there's an option to turn them off, because I don't want blur-vision.

True. I guess it just needs to be done better across the board, then. Far Cry and Oblivions LOD land comes to mind quickly... both total rubber. They can use low res textures, but the mapping needs to be done differently. Oblivion with mods for 4096x4096 LOD textures looks really nice; with a very low performance hit.

I was looking at some screens where the depth of field effects like in call of juarez seem a little annoying. Maybe its a different experience when actually playing the game on a massive monitor?

Yes, they are all pretty annoying.
Also, I wish we could do away altogether with LOD... not keep it... it would be nicer to see everything in full detail all the time.

isn't LOD just a trick to ease the load on the graphics card ?
Yes. Say hello to 10FPS if you want to get rid of LOD.

Yes, and most games perform it very, very poorly (the LOD looks like dump poop)
That's because of ram limits. If every surface on screen had a high enough resolution image associated with it so that the surface would look good with your face pressed against it, video cards would need 100GB of memory.

i agree. LOD ruined a perfectly good oblivion. (well not ruined cuz otherwise it would have been too slow) but if you see the hill from afar they look like they were done in paint. ofcourse we could adjust that but that brings in the 1-10 max fps limit.
