First of all merry christmas to everyone. I just finished my dad's xmas pc which consists of a 3000+ venice processor that is not overclocked. I'm getting temps around 38 degrees and was just wondering if this is normal with the stock amd heatsink. Thanks, Rob

38 degrees according to asus pc probe when just doing stuff like surfing the web. Nothing strenous but not totally idle and this is with the stock heatsink. -Rob

surfing the web is pretty much an idle reading. 38C is pretty hot for idle. I think a 3000+ with stock everything should be around 30C idle and 36C load.

I dont think your temps are hot enough to actually affect anything, but if you want to feel safer, take off the heatsink, wipe away the stock paste (use a little isopropyl alcohol if it isn't coming off easily) and reapply the heatsink with some Arctic Silver 5. Do the "grain sized dab of AS5" thing in the center of the CPU and press the heatsink straight down onto it. If your temps aren't solved by that, i'd say the ASUS probe is giving you bad readings.

I was getting about 36/42 at stock with my 3200+, so I'd say you're pretty close. To be honest I think 36 load with a stock cooler is a pipe dream for most people. I'm assuming you haven't got 8 case fans in that thing.

I have a 3000+ Winchester and it sits on 36 degrees at idle since I built it 6 months ago. The HSF is stock. System temp is 34 degrees so I don't see how your going to get below that with air cooling. My HSF is running at 2678 RPM's. My motherboard is MSI. Just my two cents.

My 3200+ Venice idles @ 32C but that's with a Thermaltake Silent 939 K8, so I'm not running stock cooling. It's not exactly a huge cooler either. However, I don't think 38 is completely outrageous and certainly won't hurt anything.

My 3000+ Venice idles around 29C with the ambient temperature at 70F. This is with an XP-90.
