I'm sure this is an asset in Republican circles. Before you go to his spin, here is what he originally posted about the Eagles Nest
“Seeing the Eagles Nest has been on my bucket list for awhile, it did not disappoint,” he continued. He noted it was “strange to hear so many laughs and share such a good time with my brother” in the same place “a supreme evil shared laughs and good times with his compatriots.”

Skimmed the article but I’d visit the Eagles Nest given the chance. Historic spot and historic moment.
I have posted the image of the Troops on AT when AT went dark for the vbullitin changeover thingy.
This isn’t a Nazi worship thing.

Maybe he’s a fan of the movie, maybe he’s an Iron Maiden fan, maybe he’s a turd.

I don't get it. The post seems to explicitly address how weird it is to be in and enjoy a place where someone evil lived. I imagine most visitors feel the same way.

But is it on your bucket list? Vastly different to say you’d go visit someplace/something vs having it on some bucket list, which would give it a much higher degree of personal interest/involvement.

I really can’t think of any dictator I’d idolize enough to make it a special point to prioritize visiting his old haunts.

No however it would rate high and bucket list is just dumb slang.
I really don’t see this as weird assuming the guy isn’t in the klan or some loser militia group. Even in the loser militia scenario he’d have to idolize Hitler which his post imo is not idolizing anything

Read the fucking article.

Mother fuckers like this asshole are the reason that Germany destroyed Hitler's bunker, because it attracts fascist scum sucking pieces of shit like him that want to take photos smiling about visiting a place so beloved by his Fuhrer.

But hey, why bother when you can just go "I don't know this seems alright to me?"

The post shows 25-year-old Madison Cawthorn and his brother grinning in front of the Nazi retreat where Hitler often vacationed in Germany.
“The vacation house of the Führer,” Cawthorn wrote in a caption for the post, addressing Hitler using the reverential term Nazis associated with their leader.

Is that cool with you?

What about this?

According to Jezebel, however, the candidate has named his real estate company SPQR ― a term popular among white nationalist groups ― and has allegedly displayed Betsy Ross’ version of the American flag, which the Anti-Defamation League says has been appropriated by far-right militias “among other Revolutionary War-era symbols.”
A similar report released over the weekend includes many of the same details as Jezebel’s, including evidence of Cawthorn’s far-right vision. The report was published by AVL Watchdog, a nonprofit news organization covering the region of North Carolina that Cawthorn is hoping to represent in Congress.

Aw shucks he just has an appreciation for history!

At some point you'd think over the past few years you'd have learned to, I don't know, figure that if people are calling out a Republican asshole, that it might just be kinda legitimate?

*honks your clown nose* Cut the fucking clown shit routine and stop acting like the right wing morons on here. Unless you are one, in which case own it and kindly fuck off. Done with your type of behavior because it is enabling these asswipes to get away with it until you finally wise up when they're full on Heil Hitlering. "Gee I didn't know! How could I have?" No. Fuck, that, shit.

Eagles nest is definitely not on my bucket list, certainly an odd (maybe clumsy) way to say it. It's certainly a destination that's makes me curious about why he would want to, or why he would take stuff down off social media.

I would mind visiting the beautiful mountains there, but wouldn't care at all if I didn't visit that place specifically.

I would need some further posts, acts, words used to mark this particular person as a Nazi sympathizer. I mean, there's plenty of those people out there, but this one single thing is tough to just say that.

I don't feel like googling him either.

On the other hand, Trump's fellating qanon candidates is more concerning to me.

Edit: interesting post above mine, certainly seems to be leading to a conclusion of sympathy for white power

Whoa calm the fuck down guy.
Him naming his real estate company some letters that honestly could mean anything and him referring to the Furher is kind of odd.
How about instead of saying since the guy visited the Eagles Nest he’s a Nazi with what his politics or plans are?
As presented I don’t view his trip as a Nazi loving excursion.

We live in a Country where WWII is the ultimate war p$rn for every single person in the country.
Our entertainment.
Our (re-)writing of history
Just about every single discount at any museum is basically a circle jerk to "the greatest generation of 1940 warfighters" because in our tactical war fighting kill em all society, WWII is the pinnacle of War because reasons.

It is extremely possible that the Venn diagram of white supremacist prick and American "blow up all the things because Saving Private Ryan was awesome" does not mean this guy went there because he likes Hitler.
Anyone who watched episode 10 of Band Of Brothers would think that would be a cool place to visit.
It's pretty.
It's tourist trap with a restaurant. The area is prettier than your moms vagina in her prime. (at least according to good cinematographers and photographers)

To be clear, you can be a white supremacist prick who hates the Nazi's and enjoys war p$rn tourist sites.
You can be a nazi hating proud American who simply prefers the browns stop coming to the country and Jesus laws start to control uppities.

edit: Checking out that stuff on SPQR now..

But would you post how many yucks you had with your brother vs putting the visit in historical context?

For the record if I was in the area would visit it out of historical curiosity. Probably wouldn't have a few good laughs there.

Yeah that's the difficult part. I honestly don't know what it is like.
Obviously a visit to Auschwitz would have zero laughter. I don't know what the Eagles Nest modern day setup is like.
I mean I don't think I couldn't fantasies about being Clint Eastwood in the cable car, if my wife was with me I'd absolutely use the Richard Burton line.

Eh... I love visiting places of great historical importance. I've been to Chernobyl and I've been to Auschwitz, if given a chance I'd love Eagle's Nest as well. Does that make me a Nazi?

The guy may be a piece of shit, but he's a piece of shit because of lies that he tells and shit policies that he supports, not because he visited Eagle's Nest.

This same lying republican (but I repeat myself) also claimed that he was accepted to the Naval Academy, but the accident that left him in a wheel chair ended that.

No, he was actually REJECTED by the Naval Academy, prior to his accident.

For me personally, nothing about visiting the place raises my heckles. Referring to Hitler as 'the Führer' crosses an offensive idiot line, imo, as that's a reverential term and he should know that, as a politician.

Having said that, he's also a GOP politician, which makes him a) an asshole until proven otherwise, and b) probably too damn stupid to know what he should or shouldn't say, or why he should or shouldn't say that.

This was my take as well. Including the follow up.
I'd love to visit the place. There's no arguing it's a gorgeous and significantly historical location. Bucket list? Nah. Just seemed like a weird way to say "cool to have seen it".
But the follow up quotes and bits of information certainly have me thinking twice about his motives...

Yeah this seems a bit pearl-clutchy. The guy may be a piece of shit (seems very likely), but this visit and his comments seems reasonable enough. He even called Hitler "supreme evil", that's a step up for many republicans these days..

Personally I hate him based on his name alone; Madison Cawthon? Wtf, sounds like the villan from a bad 90s heist movie.

And is using the name for the roman senate really a sign of "white supremacy"? It's not that long ago italians weren't even considered white!
edit; read the article on SPQR. Seems like white, euro-centric facists are trying to use a (supposed) symbol of a Mediterranean republic (i.e. mainly short people with dark hair and skin) as their own. God, these people are stupid.

Different place.

Schloss Adler, fictional castle; not Hitler's Kehlsteinhaus.

It was liberated by Easy Company, not Clint and Dick.

Yeah I kind of assumed it was Hollywoodized. Pictures make it look like a mountain villa
