I may be moving to the area around Raleigh / Durham (Lake Gaston is good, but may be more expensive) Also considering Traeburn (golf community) area sometime in the next few years. Would consider Chapel hill as well as it near to the others. Where ever, I want to be close to, but not in, a large metro area for access to shopping and medical as we get older. Property tax bills here in NJ are out of control. I can get a 5,000 sq ft home down there for well under $800K and pay under $10K a year in tax. Up here it is like $16K for 3,200 sq ft of home. And if I am down there, one can golf just about all year long.

We already have a town in the triangle that is designated for your type:

Containment
Area [for]
Relocated
Yankees

golf courses, not too metro, close to everything, etc. Only problem is that water is crazy expensive because Cary doesn't have its own source and tries to siphon it away from Raleigh.

Spent 2 years in Wilmington. It's a fun town but also plagued by sprawl and southern stereotypes.

Well, not in 33 degrees, but down there you can probably play 10 months out of 12 with no issues. Up here, the courses close for 3 to 4 months, depending on how bad winter gets.

Not sure why you would think that? What are the two months you aren't going to golf? If you want to golf year round you need to look further south like Savannah, or Florida.

Just found this thread If anyone is interested I can email Anand again and see if he is down for a Raleigh Reader meet up? I emailed him about 2 years ago and he said it's possible when things slow down (it was January CES time). I probably would just need a list of people that would want to attend.

I live in Raleigh. I've been here for about 15 years now. I like it a lot. Other than July and August, the weather is just about perfect the rest of the year.

Yea that was cool. It was kind of funny how everyone met up and then most of the time hung out in a hotel room trolling anandtech.

Been here in the Raleigh/Cary area going on *counts on fingers.......moves to toes...* 17 years.

A meetup sounds kinda fun

Haven't run my old gaming system for about a year now. It has a lapped Q6600 in it if you're interested

Yeah, this year was kinda crazy. It just couldn't make up its mind what it was going to do. In general though, I really like the weather and climate here with two exceptions:

1) July and August
2) Pollen Death season
