North Korea now making missile-ready nuclear weapons, U.S. analysts say


Washington (CNN) North Korea has taken a major step forward in realizing its goal of becoming a nuclear power, according to a Washington Post report on a confidential US intelligence assessment that concludes Pyongyang has developed a nuclear warhead capable of fitting inside its missiles.

The Washington Post first reported details of the assessment on Tuesday just hours after North Korea threatened 'physical action' in response to punitive sanctions unanimously passed by the United Nations Security Council over the weekend.
"The IC [intelligence community] assesses North Korea has produced nuclear weapons for ballistic missile delivery, to include delivery by ICBM-class missiles," the assessment states, in an excerpt read to The Washington Post.

The difference is, I don't see that we have much to gain from this war. It *might* be bullshit, but there's a reason we didn't invade any number of other countries with dictators that posed as much threat to us as Saddam (namely: zero). GWB's advisors long advocated expansion in the middle east in order to "spread Democracy".

Not saying this isn't bullshit, I just don't see the incentive. We have a lot to lose and not much to win. Anything large scale there might tank the world economy. Hopefully this isn't just little boys wanting to use their toys. From interviews with foreign policy people I've heard, they all seem to agree on the facts that: 1) there isn't really a "good outcome" option to deal with NK and 2) the least-bad one of those options involves diplomacy.

Actually the proximity of Seoul to the NK artillery is and always has been the number one argument AGAINST military intervention. It's why the U.S. can't really do anything about North Korea and they all know it.
