His base will eat this shit up. Watch for Fire and Fury t-shirts, bumper stickers, and hats.
Trump tried to channel Samuel L. Jackson Ezekiel 25:17. Statement obviously was not vetted by the professionals.

Good ole' propaganda right there with nice pictures and just the right amount of "data" to make sure the masses eat this stuff up.

"One map clearly showed four ominous lines originating from somewhere in Asia and ending in the United States."
"Still others think Kim might target Seattle and San Francisco, the two largest West Coast population centers that would be the easiest to reach from North Korea."
"Should we panic? No, says Pollack. Look behind the rhetoric, he said, and when it comes to nuclear weapons, North Korea has threatened only retaliation, not a first strike."

So the WP is saying we should not panic but we are going to tell you that Seattle and San Fransisco are targets of NK.

LOL

Christ!...just what the world really needs more of now is "fire & Fury" ....

To be honest though, I really don't have any problems with the USA stating openly that we will stomp North Korea like a bug if they threaten to launch a single missile at us.

IMO..We should tell them straight out that each time they threaten us, we will not speak to them, we will not negotiate jack shit with them for one year. We finally get to speaking and they do it again, done. We pull back for another year. If they actually want to sit down and negotiate with us directly, then they should make no more threats, period. I don't give a rats ass if it is rhetorical or for internal consumption. Threaten us, get nothing for your troubles.

Actually the proximity of Seoul to the NK artillery is and always has been the number one argument AGAINST military intervention. It's why the U.S. can't really do anything about North Korea and they all know it.

Seoul would get damaged (but the vast majority of the artillery can't hit Seoul at all) and people would die (but not nearly as many as you're insinuating) but that isn't the reason to not attack NK.

Frankly I suspect this is a made up story intended to stir up domestic support for offensive war. NK still hasn't tested a large nuke, hasn't tested a thermonuclear weapon, etc. Miniaturization is probably still far off.

Everything is totally cool:

‘God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong-Un’: evangelical adviser says
Texas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, one of President Trump’s evangelical advisers who preached the morning of his inauguration, has released a statement saying the president has the moral authority to take out North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The only thing Trump has the "moral authority" to do is hire a couple more hookers

Just what we need. A desperate for attention dictator in NK, giving our desperate wanna-be dictator an excuse to expend Korean and American lives towards living out his tough guy fantasy, maybe staying in office longer.

This mentally ill dipshit makes Dubya look like Clausewitz.

Yes ... it seems very similar to all the other "threats" we are constantly told about; that we should be fearful of this or that. It keeps the fear propaganda going and legitimizes the military expansion in the name of "national security." Today NK is the boogeyman but I'm sure they are working on going after another boogeyman soon enough (ISIS is still one of the current boogeymen).

So you are genuinely scared of nk attacking us first?

I really dont know.. so by default that should be a yes. NK is loonie land to me.
I believe it is Russia that is leasing the knowhow and talent to finally make this happen for NK and thats why i call it Cuba 2.0 ... Putin dont take the shits he just disturbs them.

I personally feel that it's definitely within reason for glorious leader Kim to take a swipe at the biggest bully on the playground by poking him somewhere soft (Guam) with the new point stick he found. I don't think this is fear-mongering, war-machining, or propaganda... This is just no-kidding an irrational actor who's gained a weapon capable of large-scale destruction, willing to use it to exert some influence pressure. Kim is probably itching at the chance to use it to 'prove' that he is a legitimate ruler of a legitimate country on the world stage.

and now NK has issued a threat of an attack on Guam.

Not much of a threat-

North Korea's military is "examining the operational plan" to strike areas around Guam with medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic missiles, state-run news agency KCNA said early Wednesday local time.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/08/politics/north-korea-considering-guam-strike-trump/index.html

From the aticle in the OP-

“Overselling is particularly dangerous,” said Hecker, who visited North Korea seven times between 2004 and 2010, and met with key leaders of the country’s weapons programs. “Some like to depict Kim as being crazy — a madman — and that makes the public believe that the guy is undeterrable. He’s not crazy and he’s not suicidal. And he’s not even unpredictable.”The real threat,” Hecker said, “is we’re going to stumble into a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula.”

I'm not afraid of NK, it's trump I'm worried about starting something.

Just know that trump can't do shit without Congress and at this point I don't think even the Republican controlled Congress has an appetite for starting another war based on the dictator like whims of our president.

Never use a weapon on a target less expensive than the weapon.

Hasn't the opposite of that been our entire strategy since 2001? Nothing like a $1M missile taking out a 1985 Toyota pick-up.

No, no, no, you must be thinking of some other country. I'm pretty sure it was some other incompetent nation that bombed the shit out of an air field, managing not to destroy a single plan or bunker.

Well, he kind of is. I saw a report recently that he's scared of being assassinated. Also "stumbling into a nuclear war" is a risk he is willing to take. Many are afraid Trump will do something, but Kim is willing to risk that game of dare.

Based on what actions he's done in the past?

Declarations of war require congressional approval. He wouldn't be covered under any existing authorizations of force.
