Now that is a good point. I wonder if it will ever come to it. Depending on how things go and the number of troops needed to occupy Iraq, we may reinstate it. Remember that we occupied Japan for 6 years, and that was a piece of cake, since everyone there agreed to terms that were kept by all sides. Still, the occupation force was huge. If we do go after Syria or other countries, we may see this as a serious proposal in a few years.

You obviously did not read the article. North Korea signed a treaty with the US and Japan stating they would not pursue having a nuclears weapon program

Oh, I'm pretty sure we'll be going after Iran next (if succesfful in Iraq). I dunno bout North Korea though... I woudln't want fsck around w/ anything Asia. Most of the Asian countries have more political influence, and military power. Even though North Korea and South Korea are technically still at war, they are still hopes of reunification and South Korea wasn't too happy when Bush labeled North Korea as an axis of evil, stirring up some sh1t. You don't think China wouldn't be pissed either with the USA right under them if we invade North Korea?
N. Korea and Syria are nuclear threats so it's unlikely Bush will go after either. I don't believe there's a master plan in that amount of detail. Invasion of Iraq gains oil, enough to satisfy his Oil-lust for a while I would hope.Originally posted by: Hayabusarider

Ok, serious question here: why should I care?
The Korean War was half a century ago, and since then we have for the most part left North Korea alone, and vice versa. What have we done recently to make them mad or otherwise worry about yet another nuclear power in the world?

They're animals, man, they need to be exterminated, and it's ok too because they aren't human.

308nato, don't take Moonbeam too seriously; he likes to generalize opinions, thoughts and ideals that contradict his own. Just read his sig; certain parts of it are true: "The above is probably just my usual gibberish."Originally posted by: 308nato

Don't put words in my mouth. Your sarcastic little line there has not a damn thing to do with what I posted. I refer to the Laurel and Hardy communist leadership of the country, not the people. Where did I post anything about genocide and considering the population as subhuman? My point regarding the normal guidelines of diplomacy meant that when considering what actions a country might take when nuclear weapons are involved, how it worked in the Cold War between us and the USSR would not be the model.
As a little boy, I grew up hearing my father wake up in the middle of the night screaming things like "they're in the wire" and "ammo, ammo" and "christ, they won't stop coming". Yet, he never held a grudge against the N Korean troops or the Chinese. He never referred to them with anything other than respect for being brave and dedicated soldiers.
The only thing I ever heard him say about the Vietnam War during the entire conflict was while we were watching the news in the late 60's sometime. "the bastards aren't going to let us win this time either". No beloved patriot or subhuman comments. Ever.
So you can take your little sarcastic comments about what you think I believe and shove them up your bipolar little @ss. No disrespect intended BTW.
