So I wonder how long before the South Korean populace starts to beg us to take care of this.

The South Korean government: Not long.
The South Korean civilian population: Will continue to protest stupid stuff as usual.
"Wow" is all I have to say about this; either the North Koreans seriously believe their nuclear and missile capabilties form a legitimate deterrent to US/UN military action, or they've gone off the deep end...

If you nuke them they'll be friendly, just look at Japan. They love us.

Maybe we should move our forces out of Korea. I thought our presence was not welcome there. I would like to see them try to talk with Kim Jong.
Seriously though, if they keep it up and China does nothing, our boys are going to be face to face with PRC. Kim Jong is crazy as his recent actions can attest to. If I were China or Japan, I'd be extremely on edge now.
Didn't he fire a missile over Japan a couple of years ago?

Your kidding right....what scares me is you and many other people who think like this arent kidding. You do forget that there is our ally the South over there right there next to them. And when the North is cornered, you'll be damn sure they'll use their nukes and whatever else they got on the South and other neighbors....They are more dangerous than IRAQ right now. The use of nukes in this day in age especially by the US, the only nation to ever use them in conflict EVER, will create bedlam. It's true, the North have lied and broken diplomatic routes....but the way the Bush administration is positioning themselves right now, it seems like imminent conflict because we all know by now the crazy north Koreans will not change overnight and become a peaceful nation because of the Bush administrations hard stance on them. I guess we will see in the future whether Bush's warmongering will lead to a peaceful end or more troubles ahead. I personally don't judge Bush too harshly even though I do not agree with alot of what he's doing...I can't imagine having a more tougher job than being the president right now. I hope in the end he will go down as a president that made a difference and not more problems.

Yes, and of course Clinton's passive stance did a lot of good.

Either way, I think we're about to find out...
As I've said before, N. Korea scares me 10 times more than Iraq does...
You guys DO know that N. Korea has missiles that can reach the United States, right?
Grasshopper
...The North however are truely xenophobic in an extreme sense and they are so sheltered they are crazy enough to actually believe everything they are thinking right now....like the US are on route to destroy them so they are like a cornered rat with only 1 wildcard...their nukes.

WTF do you know about the issues South Koreans are protesting about?
Obviously absolutely nothing.
Keep in mind that if US and USSR didnt play their little Cold War crap in Korea, this wouldnt be happening at all.

So does China, But yet it seems NMD is still thought to be useless thing.
While we project that Russia's strategic forces will shrink, they continue to be modernized and will remain formidable. China has about 20 CSS-4 ICBMs, in addition to shorter-range missiles. Most of the CSS-4s are targeted against the United States, and modernization efforts will likely increase the number of Chinese warheads aimed at the United States. Our report further noted that we judge that an unauthorized or accidental launch of a Russian or Chinese strategic missile is highly unlikely, as long as current security procedures and systems are in place. Russia employs an extensive array of technical and procedural safeguards and China keeps its missiles unfueled and without warheads mated.

You know that North Korea doesn't actually have nukes yet, right?
It is estimated that North Korea has completed the nuclear fuel cycle from acquisition to reprocessing of nuclear fuel and is on the threshold of a nuclear weapons capability. Nevertheless, it is unclear whether it has actually produced or possesses nuclear weapons due to difficulties in developing detonation devices and delivery vehicles, which require high-tech and precision technologies. According to various sources of information, North Korea seems to have reprocessed enough plutonium to produce one or two nuclear weapons. In addition, sufficient plutonium for another six nuclear weapons remains in fuel removed from the reactor at Yongbon but stored under international supervision, under the provisions of the 1994 Agreed Framework. By taking possession of the 8,000 spent fuel rods in late December 2002, the North could conceivably begin producing plutonium-based bombs in as little as six months -- by late June 2003.
In an announcement that shocked the world, Washington said on 16 October 2002 that North Korea had admitted to secretly developing uranium enrichment technology for nuclear weapons, in violation of the 1994 agreement with the US.
Publicly available evidence does not permit an assessment of the extent of this uranium program, and there is a considerable range of uncertainty. It is generally agreed that North Korea has attempted to acquire technology related to uranium enrichment from sources in several countries, including China, Russia and Pakistan. It is also generally agreed that, compared to the plutonium program, the precise status of the uranium program would be difficult to assess using sources such as satellite imagery. In contrast to the large and distinctive plutonium production reactors, a uranium enrichment program could be dispersed and hidden underground. There are no credible public reports suggesting that North Korea has in fact produced nuclear weapons using uranium.
