North Korea's "Burning hatred" of America, and is "yankee" supposed to be a put-down?

In that statement 'Yankees' seems like it is supposed to be a slur of some sort.
It sounds to me like North Korea is just posturing, but them's pretty strong words.

Yankee is usually used as a pejorative, especially when it's a non-American referring to Americans, or if it's a southerner referring to a northerner.
It's not really considered a bad word like other more racially driven slurs. It's more like a latino calling a white person a beloved patriot.


Or maybe they are referring to the upcoming grudge baseball game between the Comrades and the Yankees

In Trinidad, "Yankee" is kind of a put down but not in a serious way at all. It's like "Canadian" is for Americans.

Especially calling New Yorkers "yanks" or "yankees" might actually be a compliment along the same lines as calling a Canadian a "canuck".

Even then, it's not that much of a slur... heck, Christian used to be a derogatory term used against the church. Now it's just a plain ol' word.

It's almost like they're trying to sound like arabs, but are failing on the language barrier. Shouldn't it be something more like: "The brave citizens of DPRK will stand up to this illegal yankee cowboy imperialist aggression, and will not tolerate this inexcusable attack on our sovereignity!" (Now picture someone like Tariq Aziz saying that..)

Ignorant? No. Realistic? Yes. Why? Well because if they keep heading the direction they are then conflict will become inevitable. Maybe we attack and take out their nuclear sites and they respond by attacking the South, maybe they finally totally lose their minds and attack the South without provocation. Either way I don't see the North being afraid to use a small nuke or two. Their government is desperate and desperate people do desperate things. They are being slowly backed into a corner by their own stupidity and we have no choice but to keep pushing them. Sooner or later the powder will ignite and the Korean Peninsula will be all aflame or glowing.
