Hi,

this is a new build I've been struggling to get memory running stable at 1066 on, I was starting to think about run it at 800 and do a small overclock of CPU and NB instead. Anyway, I was just poking around in AMD Overdrive looking at what things are reading at when I saw it listed the NB temp sensor at 95. The system was basically idle, CPU cores were all showing 40. Can this be right? That's way too high right, like RMA the motherboard high? Or I could replace the heatsink I guess, but since it is new I'm thinking just RMA, unless this is some kind of known software or sensor problem. Any thoughts?

The temp reading is wrong. If the chip was actually that hot the system would be fried. Its likly the motherboard doesn't actually monitor chipset temps so the software isn't getting the information its looking for. Or the Software is just not reading it right. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, I just looked at the product description and it only lists CPU Temperature Sensing and Chassis Temperature Sensing so you must be right. I wish it would just say 0 instead of a crazy number like that.

The software is just poling a single chip on the motherboard. Gnerally refured to as the winbound chip since thats the manufacture who makes it. There are several differnt chips availible for use on motherboards and not every manufacture uses all the fuctionality of the choosen chip. So while there may not be a sensor plugged into the pins of the chip for monitoring the chipset there is still some sort of signal coming from those pins and thats what the software is reading. Generally the software deosn't know what is and isn't availible so it just reads and displays everything it can. Its that way for most monitoring software.

This is not a new issue. Max temp for Northbridge is 105C. Agood number is 60C. Check all the comments, etc.
