NoVA in the house!!!! I've had Cox here in Ffx County for about four years now with little to no problems at all.

I guess its time to get another hard drive 355GB may not be enough!

Everywhere in NOVA I believe, Cox is finally upgrading the last old fiber networks, ofcourse my area (Springfield/Burke) is last on the list. August 1 is probably when they go to the Cox Digital as well, which Hampton Roads/Williamsburg already has.

Burke (Lake Braddock Drive) just went digital last week, a year and a half LATE. The analog cable was soo bad you could get better reception with some busted rabbit ears and aluminium foil.

Too bad I've gone to satellite and DSL or I'd be all over this. They mailed a package here with rates and for $150+ a month I can have Cox Digital Cable. $150 is a lil steep for cable tv only. I guess they think since you live in Fairfax County you can afford it.

Between the county and this forum, I am sure to be broke very soon

I'm here in FFX, too. GeekFreak, I imagine if you didn't just look at the top of the line package you could get MUCH cheaper than 150 a month. We pay less than 100 and that includes internet access and two extra tiers more than just basic service. Something like 250 channels, not including the 150 billion music channels they pump out.

I've been on Cox high speed since it became available here in this neighborhood - 1998, I think. I don't know about that "all of NOVA" being the upgraded area. They certainly haven't done any work out here for at least a couple years now.

Just note that it says "will have access to" but nothing about it being free. Here in Vegas, it's an extra $10/month to double the speed.

Not really, cablevisions service is 10Mbit down and 1 Mbit up

On that note, has anyone else noticed cox's speed declining as more users joined? I was one of the first on my node here in Mesa, AZ and my speed has remained pretty constant. In terms of speed, I find it to be faster all day than even my ASU ethernet. Great deal for all N. VA people though.

I thought 3mbps was the cable limit. Is this not the case? I lived in Blacksburg, VA for a few months about a year ago, and had 3mbps service with Adelphia.

Actually all docsis modems are rated at 38mbit/sec download and 10mbit/sec upload. To be DOCSIS modems they must support 256QAM and 16QAM upload, and these modulation techniques have a useful bandwidth of 38mbit/sec (256qam) and 10mbit/sec (16qam).. This is why uncapping cable modems was so popular back in the day.
