Northwood 1.6a, any OC difference between Malay or Costa Rica? Updated-Some Early Conclusions

People should read these reviews. I guess Newegg.com has more CR chips than other vendors, but many people overclocked well, even hit 2.7G with air cooling. I will post my result after my motherboard arrived next week.

Hey, thanks for reply on the hs and cpu spreader thing I think I will leave the foil on the hs on for now but if I ever take it off I will remove the metal tape. how are these different batches from newegg overclocking? let us know I am thinking about getting another one well thanks again for replys

SFang, OK it sounds like the you mean the thin strip holding the black thermal material. That's part of the thermal pad so it should be removed if you're using arctic silver or another compound.

My OCed Costa Rica chip will post at 1.65V 2.5G hz, but system is not very stable. Down to 2.4G, passed both Sandra and Prime95. I think the processor still get some potentials to go up, but I don't feel quite comfortable now to put more voltages on it.

so my result is:

Costa Rica 3204A495

2 Crucial 256 PC 2100 2-2-2 (2.5-3-3 overclocked but using default voltage)
retail heatsink fan with AS2
1.6A @ 2.4G Core Voltage 1.65

Will test in a few days on another P4b266-C board, see if I can find any difference.

That's quite good! What temps. are you seeing @ 2.5 when you run a loop of say 3DMark2001SE?

I only test it on Prime95 and Sandra, idle temp is 34, full load is 50-52 degree. Never passed 5 lines on Prime95 @2.5G, I guess it may because of Vcore too low, or memory.

I also noticed that when the test runs, Northwood CPU auto protects itself. It will automatically lower Vcore if it runs 100% after a while. My Vcore setting in BIOS is 1.7v, however BIOS detects idle 1.65v, load 1.6v. I can see from Asus probe how Vcore moves lower as CPU tempture goes up, and how it comes back up when the test finished, Wierd?
