Norton AntiVirus definitions

My virus definitions haven't been updated since December 6th......I check for new definitions almost daily, but LiveUpdate keeps saying their are no updates available. I went to Symantec's website and it says new virus definitions were released Dec 24th for LiveUpdate. Oddly enough, December 6th was when I downloaded all the updated definitions since I had just did a reformat. Since it indeed was working after my reformat, I don't see why LiveUpdate would suddenly decide to stop working. I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered a problem like this. I guess I'll have to start downloading the updates the old fashioned way unless I can find what's wrong with LiveUpdate.

My definitions are dated 12-24-02 so either your subscription to updates are up, or you have some other problem. Re-install it maybe?

My subscription service ends on December of 2003 so that's not the problem. I find it odd that I'm not getting any type of error message from LiveUpdate, it just keeps saying their are no new updates.

Hello to all this is my first time posting on this forum.

Until June of this year I was using Norton AV and Firewall.Then I started have problems with liveupdate.This was driving me up the wall for some time.Then I decided to move.I still had a few months to run on my subscription but I didn't care the most important thing is a good VA and Firewall that's easy to update so after doing some searching I found both which are free and come highly recommend.

The Antivirus is called AVG homepage: Text

I ended up reinstalling Norton AntiVirus and it appears to have fixed itself. I use that same combo of free programs for one of my other computers, but on my main rig which was giving me problems....I use Norton AV and ZoneAlarm Pro.

My NAV2002 used to notify me about every other day when I booted up WinXP that there were virus defs avail and I'd download them. But starting a couple months or so ago, it quit notifying me, although when I check in NAV, the defs still show current dates (12/24 now I think). Why?

LiveUpdate probably set itself to download without interrupting you. It may change back to that setting after you do one of the major updates that requires a reboot, I can't remember.

But "Notify me when updates are available" is still checked.

Does anyone know where NAV stores the installation date that tracks the start of your vrius definitions subscription?

I download them manually from:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/UK-N95.html

they update those most days, autoupdate is once a week afaik.

Heard very good things about that AVG, and Sygate.

It does update, as I mentioned above, it just doesn't tell me about it anymore. I want it to work correctly again.
Also, when it did notify me, updates were every few days, sometimes every day.

It is a file named 'Catalog.LiveSubscribe' located depending on your OS:

Win 9X/Me :- C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveSubscribe
Win 2K/XP :- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveSubscribe
