This has got to be the coolest thing. I reformatted my hard drive and loaded all my applications and the such the way I wanted it, made an image of it. I reformatted again and loaded the image and i am very stoked...no more loading windows over and over again

thats what i want to do, did you put the image on a cd? i don't have a cd-rw so i want to know if you can put the image on another partion? Did you use the demo or did you buy it?

i try to do that... but i find everytime, i will have something different in my systme, thus not making it a complete "clean" install (yes, i know i'm anal )

 

Yea you can put that image on another drive.
Thats how its done here at work.
I find that norton ghost is useful if you run a business.
But the image gets out dated after about a month or two.
And its a pain to update your software, and not install from stratch.

Maybe, but NAV 2001 for W2k sucks. Changed all the mail settings of my accounts....

Usul, when you install NAV, you have the option of having it scan your email as it's downloaded. If you select "no", it won't change any of your email settings. If you choose "yes", NAV will make itself a mail proxy -- and thus change your mail settings.

I love Ghst myself, but never could figure out how to get the image to copy right to a cd. Always had to copy it to the HD, and then burn it, and do the same in reverse when restoring an image. (if there's a way I've never seen mention of it)...I've been playing around drive image by powerquest, and I may use it full time since it does allow this.

Bikman Ghost 2001 will write the image directly to the cd. when selecting the target drive your cdr/rw drive will be in the drive list simply select it. There is a list of supported cdrw drives in the documentation. It looks like mostof the drives released in the past year or so are supported. If the image is larger than the cd in the options area you can enable spanning to span the image over multiple cd's. if your drive is unsupported you can still have it split the image into 650 meg files to burn to cd later if you wish by using the -split=650 switch. Ghost finally has all the useful features that I have been wishing for.

Usul, In Options for NAV, enable Manual Protection. Then, in the Help, look for Configuring a manually configured email client for protection. This will show you how to configure your email prog to scan incoming mail. A pain in the ass but at least you get protection.

norton ghost really rules when you use it for linux partitions

I've got a PC running 2K server here at work with a 46gig drive in it with Nothing but images on it.
I've got about 20 muti-cast sessions running on it.
I've made a win98 boot disk that has all the network drivers for all the different network cards we use here (3C905, Netel, Xircom) and a killer bootup menu system.

Basically, you boot it up, choose which network drivers to load, then you get a list of images based on which network driver you picked, select the image... watch it load.

It took me 2 years to make this dream happen. Finally!

i happen to have norton ghost 6.5 enterprise sitting at my desk right now. It is so powerful, i love it. At my work, we set up 20 PCs, boot them up with the ghost boot disk, and run the network ghost, its great!! saves days of work.

What is it about Norton Ghost that everyone is raving about? Is it just b/c it's a big name? I'm asking just cuz there are a bunch of alternatives out there like PQ and IC3 and seems like nobody really mentions them when it comes to disk imaging

I think Ghost is the one thing that Norton did not screw up on, probably because it is one of the applications that is used more by corporations than personal users...
