Well . . .DUH . . . I didn't scroll down to see that Ghost was included. I've had a couple of previous yesrs of SystemWorks that did not contain Ghost--unless I didn't scroll down on the "install" screen either! I may try to delete Ghost from my order. I'll keep the old 2001, however--it goes to a relative with no plans for XP.

Thanks for catching my oversight.

Rick,

Unless norton changed things on this Anti-virus version... What I have been doing is installing and reinstalling on my systems to avoid paying for the updates after the one year timeframe. The only drawback is that when you reinstall every year and run Live update
for the first time it just takes longer. Your friend will be able to install it and update it every year as long as he reinstalles it every year or
pays the yearly fees..

Chris

Edit: You only will have to uninstall the NAV from control panel (not the whole suite) and then open the CD with explorer, look for the folder
NAV open it and hit setup.exe

yes, you can give it to your friend, and he will have the one year use of live update. of course, you could just download it from http://www.symantec.com/downloads/ it will be a bigger file, but it'll do the virus update. alternatively, you could just do what technogeek suggests.

Of course, I prefer to "acquire" the software for free.

Thanks for the heads up on this ... just ordered my copy. Would everyone agree that JCS is selling you an OEM version? I understand it's CD-only, I'm just wondering... Do you get a full serial # and everything?

When I tried to get an update a few days ago, Norton wouldn't let me download new virus definitions but did let me update everything else. They also offered an extr-cost subscription for a year's worth of virus updates - for more than this deal costs.

So does that mean, unless you pay for the latest virus definitions, that you're stuck with the set that ships on the CD?

Also, can anyone comment on how Norton's virus program works to Mcaffee's VirusScan 6.0? I have a free after rebate copy of that still sitting in shrinkwrap.

<< Just got one, Anyone ever use GOBACK??

Thanks, overclock
>>

Ive had the misfortune of using it for a month. The concept is fantastic. The reality bites.Id say strongly consider not installing this program. It will eat a large portion of your HD for its snapshots. It will then claim to have no record to go back to if you surf too much or install a large program.I took this program back and was fortunate to get a refund...then found a really useful program called second chance. It was by powerquest so if you know them then you know it was a great program.Sadly, they stopped making new verisions of it,so no luck with xp.You can go to download.com or cnet and look up goback to read many user opinions exactly like mine or worse.Btw,goback is an adaptec/roxio program...nuff said.
Stick to the system restore thats inside xp... I heard they based it off second chance.
imho for whoever ask about virusscan vs norton's ,ive used both and norton is much easier updates and more reliable. If you are really concerned about catching anything on your pc... Panda antivirus has tested to detect more viruses than any another product.Hope that helps someone.

Liveupdate won't let you 'download' after a year, but you can download direct via:

Symantec's FTP site for Antivirus Definitions

Look for the .exe file that has the latest date and an "i32" in it and download (i.e. 0109i32.exe is the newest as of today). i32 is for Intel 32bit (WinXX)

Too cool! Thanks for the outstanding tip, I just started getting the subscription notice and was thinking about getting 2002 to refresh my subscription.

Many thanks.

hmmm.. here're a couple of thoughts. unfortunately, I just picked up a retail copy from Staples (PM'd the $29.99 promotion from i-Rewards). I thought I got a great deal. then I hear about this one.. nuts. BUT, the retail copy comes with a $30 MIR if you prove that you're an owner of a previous Norton product, any Norton product. so if I do this deal and send in for the rebate, I end up getting 2 copies for what.. $18?

I was just checking ebay. This CD Only version is all over the place. Since this software shop seems to be out of stock I placed a bid on this dutch auction item Systemworks Pro 2002 CD Only $12.50 + $5 s/h . Great post for a heads up. I just tried to run the 2001 on my windows XP system. It destabilized what had been a rock solid configuration. That's why I'm looking for 2002.
