Thanks for the tip. But I thought only the basic ZoneAlarm was free. Isn't ZoneAlarm Pro more comparable to Personal Firewall in terms of features? (Sorry for the newbie questions)

Thanks for the post!

I noticed that this is a "CD only" deal.

Can this be registered?

Does the retail boxed version have hardcopy manuals?

What's the best deal around for the retail boxed version?

Thanks - ordered 2. Quicken 2002 Suite (w/o TurboTax) @$29.95 seems like a good deal too, but its back ordered - ordered 1 anyway - my fiance wants it for some reason, maybe she wants Quicken Lawyer to write a prenup .

Quick off topic:

I haven't researched this lately, but no one held a candle to ZoneAlarm when I was researching this a couple of years ago. A great source of info on this is Steve Gibson's site. In particular check out Leak-Test and Shields up. Also if you're an XP user, see the SocketToMe and Denial of Service pages (I love Win2k but I'm afraid of XP).

http://grc.com/

I just looked at those pages again and it seems several products have plugged their leaks, so they may be comparable to ZoneAlarm now. Gibson's site won't answer your question of best bang for the buck in features, particularly in regard to "extra" features like parental blocking, but its good info on the core feature of intrusion protection.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying this.

As for manuals, it is CD only. But the CD does have the manuals on it.

You can register it, however, I don't think there are any advantages.

I e-mailed the guy and told him to get ready to be hammered because I posted it here!

Just ordered this, seems like a good deal!!!

I think when I get this I am going to redo my computer,

Should I install norton ghost 2002, instead of the ghost that came with my motherboard when I redo my system????

Ghost 2002 is supposedly the only version compatible with XP. However,

YOU MUST USE THE LICENSE NUMBER PROVIDED WHEN THE PROGRAM STARTS TO RESTORE AN IMAGE!

On the splash screen when it first loads there is a license number. To restore the image file that number is required. So write it down and keep it handy.

Awesome deal! Just ordered. Almost couldn't believe this one. I figured it required a bunch of rebates...

Oh great, another believer of Mr. Gibson's. Go to http://www.theregister.co.uk/ and do a search for 'gibson' (without the quotes).

Just went to order....but at checkout, subtotal shows $0.00 w/$4.95 shipping. Is this the vendor's way of saying "out of stock"??

Not sure what the benefits of Symantec's firewall over ZoneAlarm free version. I have been using ZoneAlarm for a couple of years now even though I have several copies of norton and McAfee firewall products. I checked out the features of ZoneAlarm Pro and don't feel I need any of the advanced features, but then again I don't really need ZoneAlarm any more since I have a router/switch.

I also use AVG Antivirus over the competition. I used to use InoculateIT from Computer Associates, but they stopped giving it free. As with the firewalls (even more so), I have tons of antivirus programs from McAfee and Norton that I have gotten free after rebates but prefer to use AVG.

It seems that McAfee and Norton products make too many changes to the OS and are more likely to cause crashes and compatibility problems. Perhaps they have improved over the years. I also hate the nagging "upgrade" screens I get from Norton at work.

By the way, I ordered System Works, can't pass up a good deal. I am going to give the new Ghost a try. I have Drive Image but for some reason it doesn't work with SystemCommander partitions. Hopefully Ghost will work, otherwise I'll just add it to the stack of unused utilities.

If you have not used NSW in the last 3 or 4 years be prepared for a positive surprise - ever since they eliminated the useless "Crashguard" program NSW is very good. There are many really solid tools. I specifically like Norton Disk Doctor which checks your HDD and I like even more Norton Win Doctor, which is really good at identifying issues related to the guts of Windoze - in particular missing program files and registry related issues.

If you don't install Norton System Doctor, there is virtually no overhead on the OS

Give it a try

Nice deal, I got in on it. Did I see that some have already received their order from this company? Is it in a sealed RETAIL box?

THanks for the hot deal!

There is no retail box, just the CD.

Thanks, Overclock! I snagged SystemWorks 2002, a much-needed copy of Ghost 2002, and a $6.95 copy of SystemWorks 2001 for the old Win98 machine--all for about $40 shipped. Great post!

Why did you also get 2001 also??? 2002 works with Win98 And Ghost 2002 is also included with NSW 2002..........

You wasted a bit of cash here.
