Norton Systemworks Problems

Changed by Operating System from Win2000 to Win98 (don't ask) Systemworks ran fine on 2000 but not so great on 98. Here's the problem:

When I boot up and imediately afer the Windows splash screen appears, I get a black screen with an hourglass and that's it. The only to get past it is to reboot into Safemode and uninstall Systemworks. Win98 loads fine without it.

Is this a video card problem?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

maybe u try installing the earlier verson of Systemworks....coz u r using win98........
and i dun think is the graphic problem..

Mattlock2: From Safe Mode, uninstall SystemWorks and reboot. If everything works okay then you'll know for sure that the software is indeed the problem. (Like leezard, I also doubt it's a video card problem.)

Assuming you boot up okay, I'd reinstall SystemWorks. I've run the lstandard version of SystemWorks 2002 on PC's with Win98 and haven't had problems. However, the only component from ithe suite that I set to launch during the boot-up is NAV. All the other stuff (CleanSweep, System Doctor, etc.) are just unnecessary resource hogs.

Been there. The problem is the "Auto-enable" feature of Norton Anti-Virus. If you still have it installed, then go into the anti-virus options and uncheck the "Enable auto-protect". You should now be able to boot to Windows normally.

I'll bet this will correct your problem.

That seemed to fix it. Windows does boot (even though) it loads everything slowly.

But I do have another queston. I unchecked the auto enbable button in Safe Mode then it booted fine. I went back into the Antivirus options and it is still checked. I assume that is normal. Do I need to uncheck it again?

I should have explained to boot into safe mode, then uncheck auto-enable, then boot normally, but you figured that out.

If auto-enable is still checked and you're booting OK, then your problem is fixed. Do you see the NAV icon in your system tray? If you do, then your anti-virus software is loaded and ready to go. Just to be sure you're protected, open SystemWorks, click on the anti-virus tab and make sure everything is green.
