I did a Pricewatch search on Norton Systemworks 2003 on Thursday and came up with

this

company that sells through www.store.yahoo.com. It's the OEM version (just the disk, but you can print out the documentaion). It's $10, shipping is free. They are in California (Sunnyvale), so I paid CA tax of $0.83. The company is "Global Computer Supply Outlet Store", or so it says at the link. I got the disk two days later via US Mail (Saturday), and all was fine. Their packaging was unprofessional, but what the hey? Their resellerratings.com rating is terrible (about 2.50, and 4 or so reviews), but I figured how far wrong can I go buying a CD with my credit card? YMMV, but it worked perfectly for me. BTW, they didn't send me an email confirmation (and I could swear it said they would), and they didn't respond to my emails, but the disk came promptly and included a professional looking printout of the invoice.

Yes, you're correct, and I think I should have checked for another thread. I was only aware of a different NSW 2003 thread that said the deal was dead.

Caveat: If you order from these people the default shipping is not Ground but 2nd Day, which isn't free. I changed it to Ground, which was free and got the disk two days after ordering.

Beware! There's lots of pirated Norton OEM SW floating around. Symantec just won a judgement against one of them that was selling SW 2002.

There's a "better" thread about this site over on that other deal site. Possibly $8
shipped. I got mine in two days.

And btw they offer free "blind drop shipping" where you can have them ship it to
someone else in plain packaging and send you the bill. Now you know why it
sells on flea bay starting at $10 - you can do that and make a profit without ever
even seeing the product.

What "other site" are you talking about? I'm not always that good a mind reader.

Fatwallet, I assume. From the thread I saw (without any great amount of searching) you can get $2 off your order if you have a friend's order number and a coupon code. You get $2 off and the referrer gets a coupod for $2 off their next order (from Yukon's post on FW).

I would do so - but the only ones I have ever seen are the NON Professional version.

Am I missing something ?

I would like to have Ghost included in the deal !!!
Thx

Yeah, it was Ghost 2003 included that tipped the scales for me. I was eyeing this for weeks but when I read that Ghost 2003 supports writing to and from NTFS partitions I decided to go ahead and get NSW 2003. I have been getting along pretty well with NSW 2001, and am glad I skipped NSW 2002 since Ghost 2002 had all that weird registration key stuff going on whenever you restored partitions, or so I've heard.

Actually, their resellerratings.com rating is terrible. When I checked the other day, just before I went ahead and ordered (see the topmost post), their rating was 2.50 (their current rating has somehow gone up to 4.00), and they had around 4 reviews, 3 of them bad, IIRC. I decided to go ahead and order figuring they weren't apt to screw you over a CD. Also, they sell through yahoo.store.com and though not reliable, that counts for something. I don't think Yahoo would support a scamming company indefinitely. Anyway, I got the disk a few days ago and it looks quite authentic.

Anyone know if this is a legit copy or what?

Personally I stay away from norton stuff. It's too invasive for my tastes and everytime I have ever put any norton product on any stable PC, that PC ends up becoming less stable.

The only Caveat I would add is that Norton can be a PITA. I got my copy free from Symantec, some partner thing, but it has some "known" bug where liveupdate has a spa error and common clients and Norton SW 2003 never get updated. OTOH each time I have run through all the instructions in the FAQ it resets the year of virus updates, but doesn't fix the update.

Also when Norton Virus screws up, often I get no error message, but email stops working locking up the computer so I have to do a hard reset.

OTOH the price is right, and what else is there.

The disk looks quite legit. I just compared it with the one I ordered 2 years ago, NSW 2001. The NAV2003 PDF doesn't specify the length of the "complimentary" Liveupdate subscription, so can anyone confirm that the newer NSW OEM disks have only a 3 month subscription (See last post in this thread)? How can you tell how long your subscription is? The manual just states that when you get close to the end you start getting messages urging you to pay for a subscription extention.

I wouldn't get those "FREE" earbuds if I were you! I'm sure they are crappy AND they add a $5.95 shipping fee if you get them! Only the software ships free!

I agree. I gave away 14 pairs of various headphones, earbuds, etc. etc. a month ago to charity. I have some Etymotics earbuds and refuse to use anything else. No more cheapo headphones/earbuds for me.
