I got Norton Antivirus with my R51 Thinkpad. I can also download McAfee from my university software destribution. Which one would you recommend to use? Using both seems to be not to good for speed (eats RAM I guess).

Ups, right.

I have Norton only for half a year for free, after that I'll install McAfee. However it seems that i'd better switch to McAfee right now.

Do you think firewall like ZoneAlarm is crucial? My friend disadvises me having it since it slows web down.

Wow, that's a good link. I used to use ZAP, but I find a proxy better for security...

The Norton version you have is probably a retail/consumer version with a limited virus definition download period. THen you'll probably have to pay for updates.

If your school is like the one I work at, they may be using the Enterprise version of McAfee, which lets you get the updated DAT files for free, forever.

Don't use both, very bad. They don't get along well together...
