Not sure if here is correct location for this issue -- if not, delete pls.

Per Citibank, due to the business reason, Sony Card program will end in June. Citibank will offer a different rebate program but no details available yet.

For other who still have Sony points accumulating in their account, the points will be transfered to new program. However, i think that you will lose the chance to get 3 points for each dollar spent on Sony products (a 3% discount buy Sony product using this card.)

You may want to spend all the points before it is transfered to new program to take 3% discount adventage. Remember 3 points for each $ applys to the product you purchased for taking the credit too. Personally I have about 15,000 points on my account that worths $150 for purchasing a Sony product. I don't want to see this amount is reduced under new Citi's reward program.

Call Citi at 1-877-717-SONY (7669) for questions.

Btw, Sony will offer new reward program but no details available at this time either.

the points are worthless. notice on their catalog the good stuff are at least in the 6 digits. used mine to claim some movie tickets and canceled it. probably the best deal for the card.

You don't have to order from their catalog to take advantage of your points. I ordered a Sony DVD player frm Tweeter and was able to use all of my points towards it. You just have to fill out a form and mail it in.

Even though I also haven't been notified, I suspected as much once the Sony Card stopped being offered for online application at the Citibank site (I noticed this two or three weeks back). Well, I hope the new rewards program will be competitive with what other cards offer.

edit: I called up Citibank during lunch and the major bullet point is that it's ending June 16.

Thanks for clearing up the exact date this ends (June 16th). I knew it was coming, but didn't know exactly when.

I actually just bought a nice Sony Digicam with memory for my Sis (High School graduation) and have been worried about when the deal was going to end because I still have points left for something else.

That is why I could not see the application on citi.com any more. Frankly, Sony products are so pricy and the points are not really helping much as those rebate/discount for gas. So far, I claimed credits and points less than 3 times in the last 3 years.

I am thinking to buy a PS2, but rather to play games on my PC. Please post some good deals.

Well, MPD-AP20U portable CD writer/DVD-Rom combo (USB2.0) may be a choice: Dell Home price $239.36 - $50 Sony MIR = 189.36. Get additional 717 points. You may get it free after credit if you have 18k points.

I am considering DRX500ULX external DVD+R/RW-R/RW (USB2.0/Firewire) drive. Atech.com has it for $386 (including shipping).

I would also like to learn from anyone who has brighter ideas about this.

Thanks for the reply, clia. But I have tons of that kind of stuff already. Was thinking to buy a big size (at least 21") CRT or an LCD, but the price on them just huge even after the credit points.

BTW, I have more than 18K points. I really wish Citi can give us a smooth and sweet switch as Chase did on the Shell card.

Heh, didn't know it was ending next month. Last week I just decided to spend my 20k points as I figured as infrequently as I buy things on the Sony card...

I went for the 13 inch WEGA TV. It was either that or one of the two progressive DVD players - model 6xx or so. VCDHELP.COM rated one of them as pretty good for playing home-burnt CDR/DVD-R

I really wish Citi can give us a smooth and sweet switch as Chase did on the Shell card.

Pulled out the letter I received (dated 2/28/2003). It states that we should autometically receive complete info about the new card's benefits in May, and a new card in June. However, when I called Citi a week ago, the CSR told me that they have no idea about new reward yet.

Sharing some personal experience here. The best way to buy Sony stuff should be through Sony's employee purchase program. It offers huge discount. The trade off is "all sales are final". I bought my PC100 digital camcorder there in 1999 and took a 27% off MSRP. Well, you got to know someone works for Sony in order to do so. Right now I no longer have this kind connection.

Also Sony factory outlet may be a choice too if you don't mind to buy refurbished.

Good luck, everyone.

can anyone tell me how to check my points? i don't know how to redeem them either
1) Call Citibank at the numbe on your card.
2) Register Citi Cardmember Central to see everything about your account online.

To redeem points, get the Sony Point Redemption Request Form, fill it out and mail to the address listed. I cannot find it on line for a US version but have it on my hdd. So PM me if you need or call Citi to ask one. Remember, redemption can apply to purchase during the past 60 days.

I received the notification that my Sony program was ending, and have since done alot of research about this. What I found out is that not all Sony cards are being cancelled. It turns out that half of the Sony cards are going to be switched to another card under Citibank. The other half are going to remain Sony cards, but are going to move to another bank (I don't know which bank). So, if you really want a Sony card, you can still get it, but not through Citibank.

If you are a Sony card holder, I recommend that you call up the number on the back of the card and find out which category you are in. You might not have to blow all the points that you've saved up.

I have close to 50,000 points...hmmm...new tv for me?

Does anyone know if they still offer the option of buying a Sony item at a regular B&M store and redeeming the points via a mail in form?
