Uh, no, like I said in my post, my doctor said I could poop in a box every year or get a colonoscopy every ten years. No risk factors and getting tested yearly!
Paranoid?
I guess it is just a crap shoot!
He's saying the box tests aren't real accurate, and chooses to get the colonoscopy. Ten years is a long time for cancer to develop.Uh, no, like I said in my post, my doctor said I could poop in a box every year or get a colonoscopy every ten years.

Crap I'm dreading this. Never had one before. I'm 46. I suppose I should mentally prepare myself, recommended age is 50 right?
My only theory is that while my bowels are if anything overactive, I imagine that lots of older people, particularly less than optimally healthy older people have the opposite problem so maybe their systems need more flushing out?
The last time I went, I was given a choice of sedation before going in. I hate any hospital ops so I just went for everything they offered. It was funny watching my heart rate drop like a stone from "I'm pretty nervous right now" 90bpp to 60bpp as the meds kicked in! I still wasn't as calm as a hindu cow though. Make sure you have someone drive you home though.
My number one bit of advice is what they should be telling you anyway, but drink lots of water. I don't know about you, but if I've had diarrhoea then I have a tendency to shut down for a bit afterwards, and that was really the time that I should have been chugging the water.
I'm taking the day before the op off because I want to always be near the toilet because the laxative they provide for the final 24-48 hours (Picolax here) is STRONG.
I'd say the prep is worse than the op. The op is uncomfortable.
Mix a pitcher sized packet of crystal light into the prep liquid. Really helps with the taste.I put my first one off for quite awhile. I have to get one every three years. It's just the taste of the prep I don't like. The test is no big deal.

That sounds like a great idea, thanks! My doc said the “new” recommendation is to start them at 45. This was my first one…and 70 is in my rear view mirror…happily, the results weren’t TOO bad. Several polyps, only a couple that were diagnosed as “pre- cancerous” with a low probability of becoming cancerous…still, they want me back in for a follow- up roto-rooter procedure in 3 years.
I agree 100% that the prep is worse than the procedure. Depends are your friend…because when that prep liquid decides to exit…you might not be able to hold it all in long enough to get to the crapper.
My doc told me to mix a pitcher-size packet of Crystal Light into the prep liquid. Helps with the flavor considerably.
They used propofol to put me out for the procedure. I had that when I had my knee surgery 20 years ago.…When the anesthesiologist tells you, “Count backward from 100 now.” I always thought I’d be like “3, 2, 1…OK, what’s next?”
Nope…”99, 98, 96…..” out.
I told the anesthesiologist that this time, she said, “ Yep, the medicine always works.” and I was out again…knew nothing about the procedure…was surprised when they woke me up. “Done already?”

Tablets? I drank Miralax, took 3 Ducolax at 5 pm, 3 more at 6, drank half the gallon of prep liquid that evening, the other half starting at 0500. I could have shit through the eye of a needle at 50 feet by the time that stuff finished its magic.Did mine 1 or 2 years ago. Was super easy except for the only eating clear liquids for 30 hours prior. They make tablets now instead of those jugs you used to have to mix. 12 tablets night before, 12 more at like 3am before the day of procedure. No gas pain, just cleans you right out. By the second dose there isn't much left anyway. I was super nervous leading up to it but now I don't dread having to do it again in 5 or 10 years. Wife has to go next week. She's nervous too but I told her it seems like a bigger deal than it is.
Yeah...me too.FEED ME, SEYMOUR!Not eating was my deal. Fat boi's gotta be fed.
Yeah tablets. No need for laxatives or prep liquid if you don't mind swallowing 12 large tablets (not quite horse pill size, but at least as big as a multivitamin) one after the other, twice.Tablets? They didn't give me that option.Real men do it without anesthesia.
It was fun watching the monitor.

That's what I did as I wanted to be able to drive after. Didn't watch on the screen though, just listened to some tunes.Real men do it without anesthesia.

I like first thing in the morning appointments. Could not find anyone to drive me at 6am so I drove my self. They still put a port in my arm just in case they needed it. The only time it got uncomfortable was when the camera had to make a hard turn at the top of the colon. The nurse had to push on my stomach to help it turn. That's what I did as I wanted to be able to drive after. Didn't watch on the screen though, just listened to some tunes.
I was so dehydrated from the prep that they couldn't get one in!I like first thing in the morning appointments. Could not find anyone to drive me at 6am so I drove my self. They still put a port in my arm just in case they needed it.
My main advice is to fart as long and hard and enthusiasticly as possible during the procedure! It's the gas they fill you with that really hurts if you don't get rid of it. Also, who doesn't like a fart that lasts 15 minutes¿¡The only time it got uncomfortable was when the camera had to make a hard turn at the top of the colon. Good call!Afterwards I went to 5 Guys for lunch.
That's some quality counting right there“Count backward from 100 now.” (snip)
