not able to install xp from scratch on PC

hi , im having trouble installing winxp on a computer
the pc is new
i am able to install windows2000 on it perfectly
when i try to install after formating the HDD and goign through all the procces when it comes to the point where it needs to copy the installation files it fails to do so
some of the files end in .tff and some in .dll
any idea what might cause this?

To begin with, check to see if your Windows XP disc is dirty or scratched on the bottom.

i tried to install it on another computer and it worked i just did int fully install it because i only have one serial key for it
i think something might be wrong with the pc's hardware configuration or bios setting or something like that

In that case it could be the CD/DVD drive that is your problem. It may be failing or just need a good cleaning. Try another drive if you have one available.

Also, make sure there is nothing more than the mouse, keyboard, and monitor plugged in during the install.

try the MS memory test also, it found errors on a system that memtest86 passed w/ flying colours http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Have you run the Microsoft Vista compatibility program first to determine if the machine in question is even capable of Vista?

The CD/DVD drive was my #1 problem when I saw things like this. Using another CD/DVD drive fixed the problem immediately. For some reason it's not the disc, it's just the reader that isn't working properly.

You can also try burning a copy of the disc and trying that too.

I am sure about it and it is a bad CD-ROM or CD itself.
