Not all motherboards are created equally

The saga continues...

Last month I created a masterpiece. Last week the masterpiece became the POS. The masterpiece was an AMD 1.33GHz in a Asus A7M266 with 512 MB of PC2100 RAM. It became a POS when it wouldn't turn on anymore.

In a panic I RMA'd the motherboard and the power supply (Antec 403x certified by AMD). I found out that the PS was the cause, but I had this new motherboard.

Well after installing the new mobo and the new PS, I couldn't run the computer at 133 MHz FSB because it froze everytime win2k booted up. "Interesting... maybe I didn't put the CPU in right."

I reinstall the CPU and boot up and still the same thing.

Finally I consider putting in the old motherboard since it wasn't the cause. Now it's just fine and dandy.

Same revision on both motherboard 1.04. But the only difference that I could see is the bios chip (1002 and 1003). Both had the same BIOS at bootup (1003). So could it be the physical chip??

And what will happen in 3 weeks? Another PS die on me?

Who knows... right now I'm content that it's working.

BTW Tribes2 doesn't work when it's clocked at 1.33GHz. Not sure wtf I bought... 1GHz or 1.33GHz.

I may have to underclock it a tad.

heh, well, I think most people know that no matter what, there'll always be differences. it is impossible to make things the exact same every time.

Also sometimes it`s better to do a clean install of OS,even if it`s the same board model you are replacing.Sometimes the OS is happy & sometimes not with the old OS still on a new motherboard of same type.
