Not bad for an i7 920

For those of you who aren't totally bored by older tech..

I knew that this chip had more in it, despite its sensitivity to high bus speeds..

This original Corsair H70 is no slouch, either. The ambient temperature for this run was 26 degrees C. I don't think they attracted a lot of attention early on, since the finish on the copper surface was terrible, which kept it from showing its potential. I'm not sure how good the paste coating is, either, since I pulled it off to turn it 90 degrees, without re-applying.

That's a hella sweet overclock. I don't want to push mine that far. To hit 4GHz on my C0 I'd have to overvolt it and heat output would probably be quite phenomenal, ugh! Too much for my air cooler I wager, it can push past 80C already when running BOINC distributed computing on all cores.

I'm pretty happy overall though; I got some decent OCZ Platinum 1600MHz sticks from an age ago (or so it feels anyway) that clocks at 1700, 7-7-7-20-1T with all six slots populated. Pretty nice methinks! How is your RAM configured?

yeah thats a D0 my C0 does 3.8 @ 1.350 with HT disabled, with HT enabled i am still stable but hit Tmax in summer.....lol
my 8350 does 4600 @ 1.275

luck of the draw, a **** 920 C0 and an awesome 8350.

Great oc on that D0, i have a i7 860 pushed to 4.0ghz @ 1.3v

my 8350 does 4600 @ 1.275

Lucky dude, mine is at 1.48v

and yes great chip I have a 920 D0 sitting on my desk it did 4Ghz at 1.3v

It does 4.3 in the low 1.3V region, but I haven't yet summoned the bravery to run it like that 24/7.. wishing I had another multiplier step to play with, since I think high bus speeds are holding it back from its potential.

@ FaaR: Those are some impressive RAM timings. I haven't even looked at mine yet, except for tightening one setting.

@ BTRY: Nice gaming rig. I'm running an aged GTX 470 that I got on sale.. though I spent a day with some tools and got a lapped Corsair H60 (My previous CPU heatsink) mounted on it. The closed-loop water cooling does wonders for it, which is running at 800 core right now without having been pushed yet. The core temp stays under 60C.

It's fun to see what oldish stuff can do with some attention and creativity.

@ Deleted member 4644: That sounds okay to me, with an H80. Have you checked the heatsink surface on it? Both of my Corsair water coolers desperately needed to be lapped, and their performance improved considerably once it was done.. Just pointing that out in case you think lower temperatures might give your CPU greater longevity at higher voltage.
