I'm 165 lbs and 5'9“ which is considered normal weight (upper normal since I don't have much muscle). Problem is my waist is 37.5 inches and my stomach is definitely quite flabby.

I think this may be causing me some problems because my blood pressure is slightly high (142/80) and my blood test shows very slight elevated liver function. Apparently belly fat is a common cause for both.

Why do I have a flabby stomach and which exercises target belly fat? (I don't drink at all by the way, but I do eat too much junk I think)

You'd better try going to the gym. Trainors knoaw a lot about that. And have a regular check up with your doctor.

Please read the fat-loss sticky at the top of this forum.

Why do I have a flabby stomach

You are eating more calories than you need. You can use one of the many calculators online to determine your BMR and your TDEE and then use myfitnesspal to log your food and track your calories to make sure you are eating between those two numbers (BMR and TDEE). Alternatively, you can exercise (or a combination of exercise and diet) to generate the deficit required to maintain a caloric intake in between those two numbers.

and which exercises target belly fat?

None. You have to lose weight all over your entire body by using the method above. Gradually, the stomach fat will go away.

you "think" you eat too much junk? ummm, you fat belly is proof that you do.

as far as targeting said fat belly, if you do 10 sets of 15 of reverse crunches at a 25 degree decline for 7 days, it should get rid of all excess fat in your belly and leave you with a nice set of abs...

^^^ That sounds about as absurd as asking the question of which excersises target belly fat.

Take control of your food intake (most important), do some resistance training (second most important) and possibly add in cardio (very distant 3rd important).... bodyfat melts like snow. where you have the most will take the longest to get rid of.

just for reference, I am 5'8" and weigh 205 lbs, yet I somehow don't have a fat belly. Weight is just a number and shouldn't be used to figure out if you are unhealthy all by itself. It is part of a more complex equation, so don't get caught up tracking your progress by it. in your case, if you add muscle, your weight will likely increase

You probably have non alcoholic fatty liver which comes from years of excessive carbohydrate/sugar/fructose consumption.

A low carb weight loss diet treats fatty liver disease. Lean meats, vegetables, dairy, while avoiding excessive amounts of fruits, grains, and of course, sugar. Not super low carb mind you... maybe 100 grams a day, mostly low glycemic like legumes such as black beans.. only go super low carb if you don't get any kind of exercise.

Eating right and some exercise should take care of it.

Cardio mixed with strength training (with supervision if needed) would be a good start. Start slow and work your way up. Cutting out junk food/drinks will make a huge difference. Use an app like My Fitness Pal to track exercise and calories.

It's not going to happen overnight but as you start to see results you'll be more motivated to stick with it.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I really do eat badly. I'm a real chip eater, probably eat a few bags a week and also like my chocolate. I also drink diet coke which I'm not sure is good for you. Wouldn't surprise me if my liver is fat. I guess I'm the skinny-fat type of guy.

I started a diet, I"m guessing my body shape and poor muscle tone I probably need to be 145 lbs (i can barely do a couple of push ups, that's how weak i am). Also started doing weights today, but just a small amount, need to take it easy. Have cut out all chocolate, chips, diet soda, and will see how I go. Will see my doc and speak to her and see if thats sufficient.
