Not hitting the snooze button?

Does anyone have any tips on how to NOT hit the snooze button in the morning? I've developed a really bad habit of it.

I started putting my phone out in my office area, but lately i'll just get up and grab the phone then walk back into bed and go back to sleep.

The simple answer was to put it across the room but it looks like you've defeated that one with ease.

Go to bed earlier so you're not still tried in the AM

Don't know if it's still made but there is a rolling alarm clock that jumps off the table and makes you look for it so you have to move.

Other than across the room Just make the alarm so you don't have time for snooze.

If you're already getting up to combat the alarm then I'd just recommend setting your alarm for the time at which you must absolutely get out of bed.

I go to bed at 10:30 and wake up at 6ish every day. Should be plenty of sleep. I just like cuddling with my wife

Snooze - it's a cruel joke, the devil's tool even.

I've been known to turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. So, I have two alarms; the clock radio next to my bed and my iPod on my desk across the room.

If I turn off the clock radio, I will be forced to get up and turn off the iPod.

My very first college room mate was a snooze button junkie. He'd set the alarm for at least an hour before he had to get up and nothing could stop him. He tried moving the alarm clock across the room do he HAD to get up, but he'd walk across the room, hit the snooze and get back into bed. I used to wait until he was asleep and change the setting.

He went through four room mates in four semesters. Nobody could stand living with him and other than the snooze fetish he was a pretty good guy.

Try setting the alarm so that you'll be five minutes late for work even without hitting the snooze. Then you'll know you HAVE to get up and you HAVE to rush to make it on time.

If you are hitting snooze, disabling that is just going to make you hit the alarm off unconsciously, instead.

I always use two alarms on different sides of the room, set a couple of minutes apart so if I happen to take the first one out, the second one gets me. However, there have been times where I needed three.

Also, the time on one clock is set an hour ahead so my sleeping brain thinks I'm already massively late and snaps out of it. They also make alarms that have wheels and run around your room and shit so you usually have to be somewhat conscious to get to it.

OP you can thank me later via paypal.

But srsly. I just set multiple alarms ahead of time. I have to make ultra sure. My ability to unconsciously turn off the alarm is SCARY sometimes. Other than that, I don't snooze at least - I have the mindset that 5 minutes is never going to help, so why the fuck do it. So if I need to be up by 7:00, I set one at 6:30. One at 6:45 and one at "Oh shit it's 7:00"

I like my Sony alarm clock, you can tap it as many times as you want and it increments an extra 10 min. for each tap. So I usually tap it 3 or 4 times the first time it beeps until I really have to get up. Feels like I'm cheating the system somehow....yeah right....yawn.

Set two alarms on the phone, one for 10 mins after the first (and when you really need to be up) and then put it a distance away.

Shutting off one alarm, crawling back into bed, and then having to get up again for a second alarm will tend to keep you up the second time.

I was thinking someone should make an application that allows for alarms to rotate though available tones. I think I get so used to my current tone and I don't change it enough, but if it cycled through them I would always hear a new one.

I know you can turn off the ability to snooze on some phones (iPhone), but if you unlock the phone and just go back to sleep after, it becomes useless. What I generally do is set around 5 alarms, all within a few minutes of each other, so if I snooze the first couple, they just continue to go off before I can fall back into a deep sleep.

I have the same issue. Just too damn tired in the morning, does not matter when I go to bed, I'm just not a morning person. The time after 5-6am is where I sleep the hardest and where I dream. Winter is even worse because it's so dark and the clocks are set forward an hour so I'm technically getting up an hour earlier.

I like working night shifts though as they actually go with my natural clock. I can sleep in practically for as long as I want, get up, spend a bit of time in the house then go to work. I don't have to get up to go to work, I just need to go to work, because I'm already up. I don't get tired till around 4-5am. Even when I do go to bed early it's rare I fall asleep before midnight.

One habit I'm trying to get out of though is on my days off I tend to sleep in to the point where I get more than 8 hours of sleep. That's just a waste of time. Time already goes by fast enough as is, I don't need to be sleeping it away.

1. Stop setting the alarm for 10 minutes before you absolutely have to get up. I.e., if you're setting the alarm for 6:00am, and need to be to work by 8, but manage to hit the snooze button 3 times and still make it to work on time, then just set your alarm for the time you actually have to get out of bed. Your subconscious is probably rationalizing that you can go back to sleep for half an hour at 6:00 (or whatever time it is.)

2. Self-discipline. Henceforth, starting tomorrow, remind yourself that DrPizza is going to think you're weak and pathetic because you can't get out of bed when the alarm goes off.

Is this where we are supposed ot say pics or ban? Or not allowed to do that any more?

And yes, set the alarm for the last possible second to set it!

I am changing my alarm to just yell a recorded message of "DrPizza thinks you're worthless and weak!".

I buffer in the snooze button into the time I set on the alarm, so that when I hit snooze, it will wake me up again at the time I originally needed to be up.

It's a stupid psychological trick that shouldn't matter, but it works, so whatever.

Tie large hunks of steak to your body

Keep a large, angry dog in a cage in your bedroom

When you hit the snooze button, an actuator goes off which opens up the cage door, unleashing said large angry dog to attack you

Profit

That little tidbit makes it difficult.........

I have never used the snooze function in my life. When my alarm goes off, I immediately get out of bed, no questions asked. Its a habit I formed from having to wake up early for school, if I missed the bus I would have to walk to school since my parents would beat me then refuse to give me a ride. Harm is a great motivator. Maybe ask your wife to slap you around if you dont get up on time?
