MODS allow this for awhile, to get the word out? Just a warning to all of you who use these services, they have changed their terms.

American Express is now requiring that all ads have dates WITHIN the ads, which eliminates most webpages. The browser date shown on the bottom of a printed page does not count. CSR said they will deny all claims that do not have the date within the ad.

The other services have changed their terms as well. They are now limiting pricematches to $100 per item and $2000 per year (AMEX is still $250 per item and $1000 a year, and that year is 1/1 to 12/31).

Just letting people know so they don't get burned trying to set up a deal that won't be honored. Good luck, happy pricematching.

Man that really sucks. I just got my American Express Blue and hoped to pricematch one website with another. Are you for sure they wont pricematch other websites anymore!!?? Because I pretty much buy everything online.

I just filed a claim w/ AMEX last week and ran into the same problem. I pointed out to the CSR that I doubt if any or at least only a few web retailers put dates on their pages. The "solution" was to email them the URL of the pricematched site. I haven't heard back yet as I understand it takes >one week for them to process the claim. My fingers are crossed.

Macho, where did you hear about the AMEX changes? I just went for the photalley deal and will not get the planned $250 pricematch if what you say is true...

Just call during regular business hours, and amex will have a claim rep on the phone with you and you can direct him/her to the web page at the same time.

That's what I did and they approved it on the spot. They just need to see that the item is for sale a the lower price at the time you call.

I just filed a claim and the CSR notified me of the change. I'm only reporting what a CSR told me. To me, it seems like they obviously want to get out of the
pricematching-to-webstores game. Its probably starting to make a dent in profits, and it is taking some time to verify all these yahoo stores people are pricematching against. Heh.

I'm going to send them the URL of the page, and hope that they allow it. Otherwise... the AMEX BLUE becomes practically worthless to me.

I agree - this was the first time I was going to do the Amex pricematch ... if it does not work, the deal I got suddenly becomes very very cold!

I am confirming the AMX change requireing a dated ad. Verified with 2 CSRs. They told me that if you read the terms, they actually do not take internet ads but they have been since so hurry up with those price matches. Me thinks they will change it again soon to exclude web sites for sure.

for the photoally deal, you can try some of these low price websites that embed the date:

zerodelivery.com,
http://www.us1digital.com/shop/

or use a magazine ad - regal camera, regency camera --all those lowpriced places - advertise in popular photography etc. For other deals it might be harder but for cameras there's lots of places to get the same info.

No I'm sure it's been denting profits for a while. Price matching (especially) computer and electronic items on the Internet is completely foolish. And as far as many people's experiences have gone, they hardly verify the prices they see. Worse off is people take advantage of the system by PM'ing retail boxed components to OEM white-box components.

AMEX simply doesn't have the expertise to run this program effectively.

I think it's safe to say that is not the case. It's more likely that one reason for this change is all of those Photoshop artistes...people have used their creativity to 'adjust' certain elements of their Web printouts to fit what they wish to be true. Amex is just cracking down on abuses.

There will be more changes, as they realize that people are fraudulently matching to refurbs and other abuses. Don't be surprised when this happens...or when BVG disappears altogether. The handwriting is on the wall.

I, too, just did the pricematch deal on the Nikon 995 with Regencycamera.com. You know that you can now e-mail all your supporting claim info to amexclaims@awgais.com. I sent mine as PDF print-outs directly from the web pages.

I also called AMEX, and the CSR I talked to said that while the claim reps used to jump on the phone and find the URL immediately, he said they changed their policy, since this was swamping these guys and taking up all of their time. He also told me to get prinouts of the Shopping cart screen and to print out as much possible without physically ordering the camera from another place. I did this, plus sent the directly URL to AMEX. I also went to Office Depot and Office Max, simulated ordering a camera, printed out the shopping cart and order pages, and what do you know? Not a single date embedded on such high profile online and brick&mortar stores.

I think if enough supporting evidence is given, then you should not have a problem pricematching with these sites.

i knew this was going to happen. They have to tighten up just like Staples did because we were all abusing the system. The idea is to pricematch with a website that we would normally do business. however, some of the people pm'ing were using sites that they would NEVER use, like regency or allstar for cameras. It's a shame that they are tightening up, but I don't blame them.

I kind of got different story. Just called AMEX to do the pricematch and asked about the date problem. I asked the if it is ok that the website doesn't not have a date but my browser prints out the date. The answer was OK.

Just in case anyone is curious. I have just verified that CNET Advantage has indeed changed their policy. Now for the $5 bucks a month I pay, this might not be worth it. Son of a gun.

This really sucks for pricematching. Especially the CNET one. I just did a pricematch with them a few days ago for the $250, i hope it actually goes through. I filed the claim before they changed the policy, so it should.

I'm really glad i got in on the Click Citi Platinum before they discontinued it (IT IS NO LONGER OFFERED). It is up to $1000 per pricematch and $5000 per year.

The dates thing is a real killer. I haven't seen much of anything that puts the dates on there.

Just called them up again and the rep (Hillary) said the date on the bottom of the page is fine. Still no words on whether emailing them the URL will suffice.

I assume it's the same for everyone, but doesn't the URL print out on the page when you print from a website to send into AmEx? Wouldn't that be the same as sending the URL to AmEx?

This is starting to worry me.......

Aaron

EDIT: I just called and spoke to David and asked him about the new rules. He said that yes, the date must be in the add, but....to get around it, you can either call during the day and be transferred to an auditor and they will verify the www site, or like someone else mentioned, go to the check-out screen (without buying) on the website, and most likely that will have a date.

I guess only time will tell.

I've submitted 3 BVG requests last week and didn't hear about this change, however, the URL and date prints at the bottom of the page when I print. The day AMEX stops accepting Internet ads is the day I cancel my AMEX Blue...
