*sigh* so it begins...

Well I'm gonna bitch and moan until I get my $30 rebate. $120 for the DVD burner is just not worth it considering how many EDIT GD loops and rebates I had to fill out(did one of those buy a bazillion FAR items deals)

WAS the GD really neccesary?

Are you one of those people who got FW to ban the use of the word damn? And yes, it happens to be neccessary when you now have much of your money in limbo in rebates, thank you very much.
I hope you were being sarcastic or kidding, because if there's one thing I can't god damn stand it's god damned ultra religious christians who have to censor everything.

Watch out!
My 2 recent rebate checks bounced. I got the checks just before the announcement of the bankruptcy. I thought I got lucky. Be careful before you deposit the checks. I am not sure what to do now. Might have to contact Omax tomorrow about these 2 checks.

In general, OMAX rebates are getting fishy. They send rebates to so many processing centers and everything seems a log messier now. I will stay away from OMAX big rebates for now.

Rejecting rebates for bogus reasons is what lots of rebate fulfillment companies do when a company goes bankrupt. Don't roll over and give up if the fulfillment company tries to reject your legitimate rebate claim.

I got burned by Newcom 40X CD drive rebate, can't remember how much, do you have a link to the article. TIA

Newcom lawsuit Since I got all my Newcom rebates, I didn't try to weed through all the legal stuff at this site, so I can't comment if you will get anything or if it will be easy.

I just read it more closely, and it appears to be only for modems. It also looks like something where the people who really make out are the lawyers, not the consumers. What else is new.

Here's the story I got from the phone rep at the rebate status ph. # listed on the rebate form :

1.) There was a problem with the May edition $30 Cendyne DVD burner rebates because the form listed the (-) version only, and OMAX promoted both (+) and (-) drives with the same rebate. Some may recall discussion on this BB at that time (May, specifically the Memorial Day weekend sale for $149 AR) concerning whether both types of drives were eligible for the rebate. According to the phone rep, this problem is now fixed and the rebates reprocessed.

2.) The rep also claimed that they (the rebate house) had been paid their allotment to cover for Cendyne rebates through the June eligibility period.

3.) I got a new tracking # for my rebate, different from the original one I had received. Per the rep, this is due to the re-processing of my rebate (see #1 above).

Considering all the info he gave me, esp. item #1 above, I find it hard to believe the guy was lying ... why bother with THAT much detail/info if you are lying.

On the other hand, claims within this thread of bounced rebate checks does not bode well. Then again, I would think that is the rebate house's fault, not Cendyne's, considering that the rebate house likely wouldn't issue a check in the first place until they had already received the $'s from Cendyne to cover it. Perhaps the rebate house(s) are trying to cover their impending losses on processing costs for rebates that Cendyne will not be reimbursing them for (ie. post-June rebates, if the phone rep was right).

BE WARNED!!!!
It's not just Cendyne, but other CDRW makers as well are cancelling warranties.
Add Verbatim to the list.

Bought a Verbatim CDRW that just failed after a couple weeks use.
When calling Verbatim tech support for an RMA, voice mail says they no longer are doing
phone support, and I need to go to www.cendyne/support for service. After submitting
my info received the following reply on my Verbatim drive:

We apologize for the inconveniences that this message may cause you, but unfortunately
CenDyne is closing its doors and going out of business. This is why, there will not be any
more warranty services provided to customers.

I also tried skipping the Cendyne support page, and filled out RMA request at Verbatim's site.
The response was the same.

So it seems that other brands are using this Cendyne collapse as a way to get out of their own problems.
This Verbatim drive is actually a BenQ.

Purchased Cendyne 48x CDR-W from OM in April. Got the OM $10 mir in July, no prob. Just now got the $30 mir from Cendyne. Do I risk being charged a return fee if it bounces? I think I give OM a call first and see what they say.

Fax a copy of the bounced rebate check and NSF charge to OM customer service, (elevate the issue if you have to), and ask for your account to be credited. Make a "mild" mention that denial will result in a formal complaint to FTC's rebate fraud dept.

I'd be surprised if OM doesn't make good. If a retailer derives benefit from an advertised rebate promotion then they need to ultimately stand behind the rebate's fullfilment even if the supplier goes tits up.

So if your checks bounce, who and how are you going to file complaints to? Does anyone here have the time and would go through the trouble to do it.

Okay, here is the deal: Those who bought from OMAX:
"Dear OfficeMax Customer,
Per my corporate office the rebates will be paid by Cendyne even though the company has closed. I do apologize for any and all inconvenience and thank you for choosing officemax.com.
Denise
Rebate Specialist"

This is almost as good as money in the bank. Check the maxrebates site at http://www.maxmyrebates.com/promocenter/officemax/track.html
AFTER you call and tell them about an invalid claim or one they can't find and AFTER you resubmit.
If Cendyne's checks bounce, Cendyne is liable for any fees that may result in.

All clear?

I think what OM is trying say is go pound sand!!!

Of the two $30 rebate, I received one while the other is in the pipeline. It says it's valid, so I am still crossing my fingers the rebate will come. But it's been in 'valid' and 'processing' mode for so long....

Verbatim drives is Cendyne. The Verbatim name was licensed by Cendyne to provide another brand name to package drives under. That is why you are getting a Cendyne response.

So I was talking to my friendly OM csr today, the one I call that fixes everything for me.

Before I could even mention it, she asked me if I had any outstanding Cendyne rebates. She assured me that OM will take care of any rejected rebates (that should have been approved) and will take care of the bounced checks. She just heard about it in a meeting today and was surprised how long communities like ours have known about this.

And no, I am not giving out her name, location, or extension #.

So what is it exactly that sucks?

The Cendyne rebadged AOpen 48x12x50 drive.

Some of them have a manufacturing defect that causes the drive's optics to burn cd's with an offset, rendering them unreadable by other optical drives.

One German reviewer got a number of these, which he RMA'd one after another.

I have one, and was right in the middle of an RMA when this happened.

I'm in the same boat. Has anybody requested Staples to fulfill the rebate?
