How shocking... Wolfgang thinks the news is "very positive" in the long run.

You sure you're not on the payroll?

I'm still digesting the Cyberwings Status page, but in the long run it looks very good, at first glance. The new prices look more than fair, and the free upgrades for OLD customers who didn't ask for a refund are simply stunning.

50% of nothing is still nothing.

He shot himself in the foot and his business is toast. His customer base is probably less than half, his reputation is nil, his integrity is nil, his marketing does rank up there with Ronco.

Now how are all those folks with the reseller accounts gonna sell their stuff?

"50% of nothing is still nothing"? Trued words never spoken. Not relevant, but very true--an improvement!

I agree he's shotten himself in the foot (or perhaps more accurately, Lightship did--aiming for the head once the intent to, uh, jump ship became clear). The rest is very implausible speculation on your part (implausible simply because it's so exaggerated), though I've no doubt it accurately reflects your feelings (and many others'), which is fair enough.

People have every right to be ticked, even enraged, etc. etc. -- it's a free country. But that doesn't mean Cyberwings is doomed, or even in long-term trouble.

Wolfgang is talking about COURT ORDERS requiring LS to release equipment... LOLOL. No one has sued anyone.

And what makes you so sure the lawsuit wouldn't be directed the other way?

Your "optimism" clearly goes beyond a "fan." You've obviously got some connection to this company.

Just so I'm clear: Your position is that LS decided to lock CyberWings out of their access,a nd require a big cancellation fee, after CW made it clear it wanted to go to a different data center. Can you direct me to comments from Shawn where he described that scenario? Because so far, you're the only one I've ever heard suggest it. What's the soruce of your information?

Monty,

If your capability to follow a sustained argument were even 1/4 or your occasional wit, I'd say something other than this: quit the nonsensical libel and RTFT. 2 + 2 really does equal 4. You might want to be a lot more careful about what you put in writing, or looking like an idiot may be the least of your problems.

So I'll ask again: Why do you believe that LS has locked CyberWings out of their facility, pending hte payment of a big cancellation fee? I'm just looking for information. Where have those details been posted? On cwstatus.com?

Now how are all those folks with the reseller accounts gonna sell their stuff?

Now that is a good question. The positive answer will come only when CW is back up again, with explicit and declared policies on up-time and how they're going to avoid what just happened to them in the last few weeks.

Assuming it's up in a few days, and stays up, and given the changes they've made, then resellers will be able to make a strong case for reliability. They key will be to argue persuasively that this last month was a demonstrable exception. It's Shawn's absolute obligation to make than a rationally compelling case.

Were I a reseller, I'd be very politely and very firmly asking such from Shawn/CW--asking until I'd received.

Keep in mind that Shawn and the entire Cyberwings LIED outright to its customers. I've stuck through all this mess up until today (over 10 days of downtime!), where I cannot deny what's really going on any longer. I feel the rest of those "behind cyberwings" really need to face facts too.

During the last several days, the entire company, including Shawns CEO letter postings, stated that the move was going on to Virginia, and that everything looked like the service was going to be restored by the weekend (maybe even by last Saturday).

Today we find out that the move never happenend, and that the servers are still sitting in the old DC, supposedly behind lock and key. Today - they have NO IDEA when the service will be back. "1-2 days, maybe more" = NO IDEA. Now even their "status page" DOWN.

I don't care if Shawn's giving away services for free (whenever they come back up) - I can't host with such and incredibly bad run company -- they knowingly lie to their customers ON A REGULAR BASIS. C'mon folks, everything I say in this letter is TRUE. It's a lie. They're lying to the customers.

I'm not going to sell my soul for $8 a year to this company. I can't trust them.

Time for everyone to grab a hold of their balls and go to a real company.

D'OH is right. "Plesk 1" is down--need to use http://www.arrowx.com/info/ instead, as the temp Cyberwings Status page.

But this is pretty poor. Excuses, even good excuses, simply do not replace actual success. And who knows what's up this time, pun intended. A hack? HW/SW failure? ....

NOW you guys can resume mocking, for the time being anyway--this is not a Lightship issue.

As a labelled naysayer from day one, although I fell into the trap of too good to resist buying int ot program. Since my refund is in hand and my sites moved on, I actually am feeling sorry for CEO at this entire situation.

I no longer think this is a sham, a bamboozle or that this is just bad business practice in motion. I think that CEO is a certifiable nut. After reading the latest announcement on the temporary page, I can no longer laugh but feel pity. Every nail that gets pounded into this coffin gets a reply from CEO stating 'I'm not dead yet, I have lost all my servers, $144,000, been reported to the Maine AG, etc etc.'

Server's taken, "not dead yet," ... Total Data loss, "not dead yet" ... Rackshack down, "not dead yet, and in fact here you can 5x zap that account for free"

And accompanying that "I'm not dead yet," is a 6th revision of a promise of yet again more compensation for people put out by the failed promises and misinformation. Unbelievable.

Webulex.com $5 hosting
These guys actually answer their phones (Who would have thunk a webhosting company ACTUALLY has people working their support and sales lines). I've been with a few hosting companies for a couple of years and this was the most trouble free. It costs a little bit more by maybe a buck, but as cyberwings show, you get what you pay for. Dreamhost tho, even tho I paid allot, I still got horrible service.

Thats what I've been trying to say. You get what you don't pay for in this case. SStick with a hosting company that actually has a working number, guarantees uptime and has been in buisness for at least a year. I've tried quite a few but right now I'm very happy with the service and speed of Hosting Prices
You get from what I see all the features like unlimited FTP/EMAIL/SQL/CGI all that stuff

Ok I'm going to put on my flame retardant underwear before hitting the post button... But here goes.

From the "temp" cwstatus.com site...
> ...Dual SCSI 120GB Hard Drives...

Anyone seen these before?? I haven't. I can't find a link to one either. Not on Seagate.com, not www.storage.ibm.com, not pricewatch... where are these drives? Who makes them?

Also:
> ...new Dual Pentium 4 1.6ghz...

Guess he really means Xeons. But the 1.6 was the Zeon MP if I remember right (1MB cache not 512K) and is quite expensive. Quick search of pricewatch shows 3 vendors total. Prices from $3830 to $6007 for a single add-on processor. Hmm...

Usually in any story there are 3 sides - person 1, person 2 and the truth.

I just can't believe people keep defending them after they keep hearing conflicting stories... They have the servers the LS "employee" is lying, they don't have the servers, they really do have the servers. Be up Monday, next Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 3rd Tuesday after Mardi Gras... I just understand why people still believe him with NO verifiable action taken for days! Name one verifiable POSITIVE action they have taken recently? Besides the attempt to sell even more unusable at the moment accounts? (tongue in cheek)

Also remember a couple of months ago? CW was so far behind in setting up accounts that they stopped the sales? They just couldn't get to the fast enough! A couple of days setup turned into weeks, into months, and some here even demanded refunds?? Remeber that??? Now he has to set ALL those accounts that were so hard to setup before that it took forever, AND they're pushing new sales to boot? Does this strike anyone else as just a little bit odd??

Oh, while I am no lawyer in any way shape or form, I have been in business for a number of years. I believe IF (note the previous word) the LS employee who said they had the servers wasn't lying (and apparently he wasn't about the server's being in their control, despite previous posts by some) about CW being in arrears for some big $$$. I believe that may fall under the legal heading of a mechanic's lien. For example, if you take your care into a shop and then don't pay, you won't get your car. The mechanic supplied a service, and you have to pay for it. IF (there's that word again) this is the case, LS would be in thier rights to hold the equipment until it is paid. In fact, my quess it's in the contract LS and CW signed as well. That's just a guess no one knows for sure as- not even Wolgang - as no one here is privy to ALL the facts in the matter.
