Non-payment, may be? Too bad there's not another twist to this scam.

Well, we've passed the 1,300 mark in number of posts. What's the longest running thread in Hot Deals anyway?

Excuse me - when I said the server was down, I meant the one that had the customer accounts on it. The company's server is working fine - which could point to something as simeple as needing to be rebooted (In fact, one of the interns told me as such, saying that it wasn't anything "sinister" to worry about). Meanwhile, I see that martial law has returned to the main #Cyberwings channel - locked down tight, and no one but Jan is sight. Figures. I've ben away for aa few days - I wonder what Geek's status is after his little speech he gave? I'm sure that could have construed as saying nay.

Oh well, we'll see - It wouldn't have been right if it had died quietly...

Wow
Looks like some people are getting their Western Union money order from CEO. But of course, that is going to stop soon, very soon, just like the rebuild process.

I can't believe anyone is still waiting for a "rebuild" of their account. How could you be that dense?

This guy is a pathological liar. Everything he's said publicly since the beginning of July (when they went down) has been a lie. He's missed every self-imposed dealine. He calls himself "CEO" and he doesn't even have a company checking account! The few refunds he mailed were money orders purchased at 7-Eleven!

Here's all you need to know: The main bulk of this company's severs went offline July 3. Since that time somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 accounts have been rebuilt. None have been rebuilt since July 27.

He and his "followers" can put whatever kind of spin on it they wish, can come up with any kind of excuse or excuses they wish, but this is an undeniable fact: It's been weeks since an account was "rebuilt".

How very true mccall - for that matter, has anyone even admitted to being in contact with him lately? I can't remember that last time anyone said that they had. I got lucky and got in on theo one server that they have up and running for customer accounts. I wonder how long that will last? It did go down once the other day.

By the way, I don't think that all of the refunds came from 7-11, but the fact that any of them did is funny in a not so laughable kind of way. That and the stuff his ex-friend had to say about him was pretty telling in and of itself. What a mess...:disgust:

Hosting requests

Follow this link - post your requirements in the fourum that it leads to. Hosting companies will get back to you with offers to host your account based on your requirements. Search the boards for info about the hosts theat get back to you, then make an informed opinion.

Hint: you will find good and bad stuff about all of them - that's the nature of business that not everyone will be happy. The trick is to pick someone who seems reputable to the majority.

Good Luck to everyone...

I for one finally gave up on CW and a rebuild. I prefer to let CEO_Shawn hide from the authorities at this point. I was lucky and only out $15.00..... I suppose I could file for refunds but, I dodn't even have the card I used for two of the purchases anymore. (not that I would ever see it any way.)

I suggest we all follow macsamurai's advice at this point and put Shawn on the run...

In the mean time I found what looks to be a decent host. I was looking for someone who did Windows and Unix hosting. I found Weberz on webhostingtalk. I will even be getting the reseller account!! See my post here for more info. It's more money that CW but after having my own sites to do stuff with, park files on and do webmail. I can't live without webspace anymore..

So should I keep my lynchin' rope out or put it away?

I, for one, want to sincerely thank CEO Shawn.

This has been the best and most entertainment I have ever received for $4. None of my 3 kids can even come up with the wonderful BS stories that Shawn has woven to try and keep his neck out of my lynchin' rope!

If you go to www.cyberwings.com it will link you to the message that the CEO wrote, and there is a link to cyberwings website. That page is for you to register a domian. If you click on the hosting link it will link you to a page not found. I am not sure had anyone else noticed this and wrote it already. The company looks like they are going down.......

I am suprise about the cyberwingsownmemoney.com and I want to know how many people is really going to do it. I am thinking of doing it or not...for $10 hummmmm

I just wonder how much money did they make.......

let see 1300 posts diveded by 2 and average people pays $10 ((1300/2)*10) = $6500. I am sure some of us pay more than $10 and there is many other people out there who pay them too. Good way to make fast $$$$.......

I'd like to apologize to Monty for being away so long--I didn't realize he missed me so much! (Though his treatably paranoid response to my absence mitigates the pain for the rest of you. Yes, Monty--I'm Shawn!)

I've not been frequenting the thread in the last few weeks simply because there's been so little new information either to give or to receive. As a few will know from earlier PMs, I was planning to post a rather strong set of criticisms about Cyberwings (in a nutshell: "Shawn, you need to make Cyberwings like a bank, not like a rich kid's hobby business") after the RackShack debacle (which was purely a matter of non-payment at CW customers' expense--news I broke here), but I wanted to give Shawn a chance to reply first, just to be fair. Of course, and characteristically in the last few weeks and months, I never heard a word back from him.

It seems pretty clear now that Cyberwings' "recovery" is just hype. I don't think Shawn is maliciously trying to harm "the Cyberwings community"; he's just very foolishly irresponsible (and perhaps suffering from the resultant stress- and failure-induced breakdown). Reckless but emotionally satisfying bluster and excuses worked for so long; but only for so long. CW staff often say that they're in the dark and only Shawn knows what's going on--but I think even that's optimistic. The question I'd have now is: does he even seriously care anymore? Doesn't seem like it.

Cyberwings is a poorly run hobby business that isn't any fun for Shawn anymore--and that means trouble for the thousands who counted on him.

I thought you can do better than that. You still don't think he's trying to pull a stupid scam and failed? He just didn't get enough money and run fast enough.

It's not just trouble for thousands of his customers, it's big trouble for Shawn himself. This isn't some Monopoly game where you can fold your hand and go away....there are legal consequences. But it's sure interesting seeing how this will play out. Let's keep this thread going.

The biggest part of a true scam is to actually get the money and run - he certainly had the opportunity to do so. I have to agre with Wolfgang and others - he actually did mean to run a business, he just doesn't have a clue as to how to do it, and ruined himself and his company in the process. They are now the laughing stock of the hosting industry, and managed to take the heat off of some other hosts that were getting hammered. The also managed to boost the business of many other hosts (although I still wonder how many of them he's pushed to the brink - I tend to believe that some of the marginal ones that were limping along have grown too much since this fiasco and will now wind up on the sidelines with CW soon), educate a few people about some of the technical aspects (thanks Shawn, for helping me remember some of the stuff I learned in class), and provide a good case study in someone's management classes on everything not to do. The fact that some of the supporters are still hanging in there has got to be a whole chapter in itself - I know that hostages sometimes fix on their captors, but this is the strangest thing I've ever seen. I think Shawn ought to seriously think about Scientology or some other cult - this guy must know the Jedi mind trick or something.

By the way Wolfgang - Monty wasn't the only one who missed you. You actually did put together some insightful points that might have been valid - had not Shawn and the crew been involved. They managed to combined the worst luck ever with sheer ncompetence (I've heard from fairly reliable source that the Rackshack non-payment was on purpose - he decided that it was a good time to combine the entire oeration into one place. Of course, he botched it as well. He could have pulled that off if he had notified people that it was going to take place, planned it better so there wouldn't have been all that downtime, and actually had the new servers up and running (which of course no one can even prove exist)) But that's Shawn for you - ignorant and unapologetic to the end.
And when his old friends started to catch up to him - I think that was the final straw. He's been humiliated in ways that I dont' think he can recover from (those pictures are the funniest things I've seen). He's been hiding ever since, and I don't know if he's coming out to play again. But time will tell on that...

Alright, the editing is going haywire here, so I'm going to close this out. Kwad, do you have any more insider info?
