This is some wacked out stuff.

(snip)
I became short, defensive, angry, with the customers,
with staff, with the entire situation. More at myself more than anything.
Not at any of you, and not at the customers.

(snip)
We know how to host, we know the ins and outs of hosting,
and we can use our existing data center in Virginia to do it with on the
lines there.
(snip)
It will have a different CEO as to not conflict with Cyberwings, but I
(and Cyberwings) will be the driving force behind it.
(snip)
If the saying "The Truth Will Set You Free" is true, I should be flying high
right now.

In case anyone still cares - CW1 is back online - only took about 34 hours for a reboot - now that's speedy service!

For those that are still interested in this story, here's the latest. Jan, a full time staff member, has posted a statement. She was known as Jan-CWStaff on the Cyberwings IRC channel. It almost seems like the story is about to come to an end.

i think the cyberwings fiasco, after slowly creeping toward its end ... is pretty much there. many will doubt it was very far from there to begin with. maybe it was the zaps. =)

The only high Shawn is getting comes from the paint thinner he's huffing out of a Shasta can...

How can he have that much in bandwidth bills when he's hosting, what? 10 sites?

Good point

His bandwidth bill is $1000/month with Cogent.

Cogent for resellers is $3000 per month for 100mbps line. $1000 is for non-resellers. Rumor is it may go up as well.

I don't think web hosting is considered reselling bandwidth. He is using the bandwidth to provide (crappy) service.

Aug 30 update

If anyone bumps into Shawn J White, please pass along this message we recieved:

"Can you have the owner of cyberwings contact bbennett@datapacket.net?"

"Data Packet would like to offer the owner of cyberwings a free bailout. Data Packet will also honor existing customer hosting terms which means less refunds for the cyberwings owner. Thanks for your help. We have been trying to contact the owner but could not."

This guy has more lives than a cat...of course he'll be stupid enough to not take this...as deep as he's in, he qught to be offering the guy a hummer or two. Maybe I should bungle a webhosting company so people can bail me out as well - I've got a newborn here and I could use the money (Anyone know of a hot deal on Carnation Formula?

In other news, Doorman352 (aka Jan's husband) went on a bend last night and shut down the #cw-supporters channel on IRC. I was sleeping at the time, but here's what I got this morning:

[10:54] <monstormart> Doorman: what happened last night man?
[10:55] <monstormart> i came here and everything was like...empty!
[10:55] <Doorman352> when I kicked everyone out?
[10:55] <monstormart> yea
[10:56] <Doorman352> I kicked everyone out......to be the child they were acussing me of being....... nothing serious
[10:57] <monstormart> oh, interesting

The channel has since been reopened. For whatever that is worth.

What??? Childish behavior in the supporters channel? Who could belive it?
More silliness...

Uh oh, I think Shawn is in even more trouble (as if that could be possible)

Cogent
Well as we've recently suspected, according to a Tier3 tech at Cogent the IP address for cyberwings.com is to a "personal/office" account (used for like a privately owned business, like a doctor's office, or maybe even Shawn's apartment) in Shawn's name. NOT a hosting service. They were VERY interested to hear how he was using it. As for the address on WHERE that line leads, it does NOT route to Virginia as he claims. Cogent doesn't even have service in the Virginia area. They do have service in Baltimore though. We have someone checking this out further and hope to have more news soon.

Hmmm, sounds like more fraud to me Mr. White, perhaps you better get that lawyer out of the IRC chat channel and paying attention to the legal matters building up?

These are reportedly the blocks of IPS White had from Cogent:

66.250.148.XXX
66.250.149.XXX
66.250.150.XXX

Interesting... where did this info come from?

In any case, I'd just like to see Shawn in some trouble. From where I stand, so far it appears that Shawn has actually been able to avoid being in any trouble at all. He's caused lots of trouble, but until I see a mug shot or read an article about him being fined or going to jail, it seems like he's gotten off relatively unscathed.

You're right, Shawn has evaded serious penalty so far - aside from some minor obstruction (having to hide out on the internet and the like), he really ahsn't gotten what's coming to him. But I suspect it will be coming soon. I don't think he figured on people with the dogged will to hunt him down like Frankenstein's mob.

By the way, the info came from Katsuey's page - another former supporter that he stepped on until they got determined to take him down.

Well it seems the Cyberwingsdomain page is still working. Looks like I might as well transfer that to a reliable place and find some new hosting. What a waste.

I don't claim to understand all the details, but why don't you guys just take a page out of the FS/FT forum's playbook on trolls and have a bunch of people in the area go confront him?
