For the record, I also received a refund from 2checkout a few hours ago. Pretty amazing seeing as I never requested one. I thought that $8.00 was long gone, but 2checkout came through. Are most of the paypal folks SOL?

Holy cow--worse than Cyberwings?? That would be quite something. I remember I glanced at their web site (dont' even remember what company now, if there was only one) back when the offer first appeared, and it looked a lot more substantial than Cyberwings.

But I guess that just reminds us that the web is a lot like television: image sells more immediately (and too often more effectively) than substance.

As always, thanks for the update, RSG2.

Pretty soon he'll be selling our creditcard numbers.

Glad I used Private Payments.

Fortunately, no one gave him our CC numbers. He was paid via PayPal and 2checkout.

Those of you who paid via CC through PayPal, you may want to call your CC company and dispute the charges. I did recently and explained I purchased a year of service. Of which, I only got about 2 months worth. They found in my favor for 3 and I just need to sign something for the fourth charge. I think only because of the amount ($10).

Well I just sent in a request for a refund, and got this reply the next day:

We have refunded the order(s) in question, to your credit card. It normally takes 4-7 business days for the Credit Card company to update your balance and show the refund.

Great service, indeed.

All I did was go here and fill out this form:
http://support.2checkout.com/esupport/servicesupport.php

Make sure to include your order number too, I'm sure this speeds the process along.

So does anyone recommend any good web hosting companies to look into that support mySQL and php and are pretty cheap (but nothing like this fiasco cheap)?

thanks

Anyone know the last time anyone has seen/heard from Shawn.

Also, are people still trying to go after him???

Just curious, I got my $$ back from 2checkout many months ago and have since hosted with someone else. Just want to know "the rest of the story"....

Anyone still rooting for or holding out hope for Cyberwings.... I heard CEO-Shauwnnduh is going to be flying by on a comet next week. If you want to upgrade to his premiere comet service - get your purple Koolaid and Nikes ready.

Seriously people. Get a new host and get on with life. This guy pisses me off so bad I can't describe it, but at that same time... the $6 I lost on Cyberwings has provided me far more entertainment than the last movie I saw for $8

Sept 16 update

I got an email from Shawn J White yesterday. The exchange follows:

On 9/15/02 1:46 PM, CWings2001@aol.com added a note to the human symphony when this was said:
> Laurie,
>
> Just know that it is me issuing the refunds and not anyone else - you have

> being processed very shortly - I assume you'll be very fair and post all of
> that information on your site as well.

> Shawn

Shawn,

I will await confirmation from 2checkout on this issue. I am sure you understand. Your word doesn't hold a lot of weight with me. If 2checkout confirms it, I will post it.
I'd like to see you pay your former "employees" in the meantime.

Laurie

Here is 2checkout's statement:

On 9/15/02 10:41 PM, Tom added a note to the human symphony when this was said:

Obviously I can't confirm or deny any statements made.

If refunds are made to customers who paid via credit card thru 2checkout.com, and the refund is to their credit card, it only stands to reason that the refund had to come via 2checkout.com admin panels. We never store credit card information, that is the responsibility of the payment gateway. You would need to connect the dots to figure out who would be the one funding those refunds.

If the refunds have been of the cash/ check/ money order variety, they would have been done without any knowledge (or funding) by 2checkout.com

(disclaimer)
The above is for "information purposes" on the way refunds happen using 2checkout.com, and not in any way a confirmation, denial or a discussion on, the situation regarding Cyberwings.

So in other words, it seems that maybe Shawn himself must have hit the lottery or something and is paying people back - go figure...but wait, there's more...just when we all thought the ashes were getting cold, there's this...

In other news, someone noticed that cyberwings.com doesn't resolve. The name servers have been flipped to ns1.cyberwings.com and ns2.cyberwings.com. They point to .... you will never guess ...

Prior to today, they pointed at Cogent. Given Shawn's publicly proclaimed hatred for RackShack, why do you suppose this is?

Now there's a strange development for you - heck, we'll double the post count in this thread yet...

Thank you Wolfie, for keeping an intelligent discouse going for awhile. Too bad Shawn had to be the idiot everyone was proclaiming...

By the way, I think the name of that hosting company is Datapacket.net, or something like that. Word at WHT puts it as being the owners third hosting company, with many people being burned along the way...

I took that to mean there is no way in hell Shawn is the one refunding anything from 2chectout.

Then if Shawn's not doing it, then who? It wook it to mean the 2Checkout definitely wasn't doing it, since they don't store the info.

I believe that PayPal stopped giving refunds a long time ago. There were a couple people (1 or 2?) who got the promised "Western Union" refunds directly from Shawn, and then 2Checkout who seem to have been taking care of their customers from day 1.

If you haven't even asked for a refund yet... well, there's no time like the present.

I'd suggest you request one from whoever you paid through (PayPal, 2Checkout, whoever) and if you used a Credit Card, go straight to your credit card company. Even if you don't end up getting your money back (since this has been going on for MONTHS at this point) at least it's one more complaint against the complete waste of human flesh that is called CEO_Shawn.

Just dispute it with your CC company. Every halfway reputable CC company is going to just give you the money back, no questions asked.

I know a few people that paid with 2checkout.com. We just went back there and filled out the form (if you kept your purchase numebrs and such) and got our money back within a day or two. No hassles at all.

I'm surprised no one has posted a link to the interview CompuNotes had with Shawn (either that, or I missed it - in that case, apologies). It's an amusing read, but nothing new - more of the usual Shawn J. White bull. Read it here.

An example of what he continues to spew - "To this very day I get a lot of emails from people giving us their support. Asking how they can help. Telling me how they wish Cyberwings could get back to where it once was." Either he's lying (wait, Shawn might lie?) or there are some people still seriously deluded.

This interview was dated September 5th so while it's not up-to-the-minute, it's fairly recent. Just in case you haven't gotten enough of his high-and-mighty attitude and his assessment that he did everything he could, but people were just unreasonable - take it in here!

I somehow missed that interview actually, and I've read every post in this thread. But I actually can't read the interview without getting really annoyed at the SOB. Maybe that was my response 150 posts ago as well and I blocked it from my memory

I've been kinda bummed that things have been so quiet recently. I want some big news. I want to see the mug shots.
If there's no Cyberwings news, then what's the point of getting up in the morning.....

Well Aceman, at least I'm glad knowing I wasn't indeed the only one to miss it, thanks to Harry.

Edit: I just re-checked all the posts in this thread from September, didn't see the link to this article.
